7% saline continues to deliver.

Here I am, again singing the praises of 7% saline solution, the introduction of which into my daily lung treatment, correlates convincingly with the disappearance of predictable twice yearly episodes of acute (febrile) bronchitis requiring antibiotic treatment; nineteen months now without a flare up. My apologies to any English teachers on the forum; can’t seem to learn when to end a sentence. Don

I’ve used 7% for a couple years. There are issues at pharmacies getting supply, Amazon is twice the price I pay through pharmacies with my insurance. I can’t find a formula to make your own. I see other percentage formulas, but I need 7%. Does anyone have a formula to share to make the sterile saline 7% solution?

I will be interested in the answers to this. My physician will not prescribe it for me although I have asked several times. He had a bad experience with bronchospasms. I was able to get it from nebology on line but they will no longer send it without a prescription. I did get it from Amazon as I do think it helps keep my lungs healthy. I use 7% in the morning and 3% in the evening now to make it last longer. It is pricey but have no other choice at this time.

Is your doctor a pulmonologist experienced in treating MAC & bronchiectasis? If I recall correctly, you are an RN?
In your place, I would certainly use my very best skills to convince him I want to trial 7%, promising to report my results. Failing that, as an advocate for my own health, I would be looking for a more amenable physician... is that an option for you?

My Doctor gave me this formula for saline water in 1973 I have no idea what percentage it is but I have been using it with no problems. 1 pint of distilled water 1 teaspoon of Rock salt /ice cream salt non iodized salt. NOT table salt bring to a full rolling boil so the rock salt will dissolve. Make fresh daily. Hope this helps I was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis in 1973 after many years of not knowing why I was having so much trouble. I use the saline water in a warm mist nebulizer and an IPPB machine.

You are so nice to respond. I’ve had the best results with 7% but will use this if I don’t find another. I’m nebuluzing more daily to keep my lungs open because I’m dealing with pneumonia. Then I couldn’t get a refill box two weeks ago. I’ve got 2 dozen left, but starting to panic.

Yes, an RN. He is a pulmonologist who was highly recommended by my attending physician. Also very recommended by RN's I know who have worked with him in the intensive care units at our local hospitals. He was very knowledgeable when discussing MAC with me but not sure if he is particularly experienced in the disease. I do need to look around because I will not give up my 7% saline. On nebology is was an alternative that seemed affordable. Need to look around. Thank you for being so attentive on the blog. I always read what you have to say.

Sorry my timer went off. Goodrx will give you a list of nearby pharmacies and the prices they offer. It might be called sodium chloride instead of saline but it s on there. Choose the best price and/or most convenient for you and have your doctor send a prescription. In my area it ranges from around $14 to $20 per month.

Are you working with a pulmonologist or an internal medicine Doc? I can't believe any pulmonologist would agree to this treatment.

Just added Amazon selections for 7%…$39 to $69. It’s worth trying to nebulize it. It made the world of difference for me. No prescription necessary.
