Does anyone have these problems? How do you handle it?

Don't be embarrassed, I was seeing a psychiatrist for anxiety and mild depression, he prescribed six different medications one after the other and they all made me feel worse so I decided to get a second opinion with a different Dr. and She recomended Lorazepam 5mg. I'm still not out of the woods yet, I ask my pcp about the 5HTP supplement, and he said that some of his patients are taking it and they really are happy taking those supplements rather then drugs, so I'm going to try them here pretty soon, will keep you posted.

Hi! 5-HTP is an herbal supplement that can boost serotonin levels in the body to help reduce depression.

I found a link in the Mayo Clinic site which has some information about some natural remedies for depression and their possible effectiveness. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/depression/expert-answers/natural-remedies-for-depression/faq-20058026

Don’t be afraid of your physician…only gives him/her unearned power. They are on your payroll, and they either take care of you or be replaced. I’m the same age as you, and the beneficiary of anxiety and depression from the maternal side. I am taking Clonazepam 1mg., as needed. Sleep 7-9 hours a night. Also am taking Prozac. Find a doctor who is interested in helping you. Firing a physician is therapeutic, as is giving your physician the opportunity to do the correct thing for you no matter how many times he/she/you have to try. Stay strong.

Thank you for the information. Omegas is already one of the supplements I've been taking combined with turmeric though. Supplement from the Dr. Livingood Daily supplement company. I haven't been taking them for very long. Maybe two weeks.

Best wishes for continued recovery. Several years ago I was taking lorazepam for anxiety issues, starting at 3X daily eventually weaning off after a few years. My dose was 0.5mg and was effective. My query is if the dose you quoted at 5.0 mg is correct or a typo.

It's a typo, it's 0.5mg

HTP=Hydroxytryptophan, It's an amino acid that your body naturally produces. Your body uses it to produce serotonin, a chemical messenger that sends signals between your nerve cells. Low serotonin levels are associated with depression, anxiety, sleep dosorders weight gain and other health problems.

Thank you. So it's better than prescription drugs.

I would think so. I'm trying them out see how they work for me, just started on them 8 days ago, but still take my lorazepam 0.5mg and eventually get away from the drug. will let you know the progress.

Is Hydroxytryptophan a prescription drug? Or is an over the counter?
