PSA of 5 … “normal “ supposedly is 0-4 … is a 5 really that bad ??? … or is it just a way for your PCP to send you to a Urology buddy and split the money from billing ???

Members such as @dandl48 @tonyinmi and @safari1949 have discussed PSA levels previously and may be able to shed some light on the urologist referral.

Would you say your main concern is the PSA level itself or feeling like you are not in need of seeing a urologist at this point?

@rjwintl @amandajro My PSA was hovering around 3, first tested in 2011. My last reading, this year, was 6.9 so I went to the urologist. An ultrasound of the prostate was performed this year. My prostate is "slightly enlarged" was the diagnosis. I was told there is no reason for concern. The urologist said my Free PSA was 25 and anything above 10 is good. I got the impression that the Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) may be a better way of determining cancer than the PSA. I plan on following up yearly. My concern is that my father had his prostate removed many years ago. I'm not sure if it was diagnosed as cancerous though.
