Tops of my feet get hot and unbearably itchy!

Posted by monkus @monkus, Sep 30, 2021

Usually at night the tops of my feet (only) start burning and itching. It's so bad that I feel like I need to scratch to my bones to reach the problem. The only relief is if I wrap my feet in ice packs. Afterwards there are blisters on my skin. Recently, the same thing started happening with my forearms. Has anybody experienced this situation?

Yes, the itching is maddening at night! I got a referral to a dermatologist and got a prescription for Fluocinide which helps a lot. I started out with lesions, itchy patchiness all of which drove me crazy. I treated these areas with the med mentioned and keeping colloidal bandages on the wound itchy areas for days if not weeks. These bandaids are water proof and I believe soap and shampoo irritates those areas of concern so keeping soap off feet is important. I wear rubber gloves once I take out the soaps. It looks weeks if not months to get it under control. I treat any developing itchy patches wherever they show-up ASAP to prevent the patch to grow into a itchy, weeping wound, Again, get a referral to a Dermatologist. It is possible with diligent treatment of itchy patches wherever they start.

Thanks so much for the information. I have made an appointment with my dermatologist and will ask her about the medicine you had success with. I just can't understand why this is on the tops of my feet and why the itch is so intense.

I have the same thing, or very similar. My sensations are tingling & burning more so than itching and it is in the area of the front of my lower ankles and the tops of my feet. I think it is a form of "peripheral neuropathy", or nerve damage. You might try doing an internet search on this term and see if it sounds like your situation and then ask your doc about it. There are treatments if they can determine the cause. I'm just living with mine and sometimes using one of those roll-on pain relievers (like Icy Hot) with Lidocaine added to numb the area. It definitely helps for awhile. Good luck!
