Zometa infusions to help prevent bone loss from cancer treatments

@Chris. Thank you. I advocate for myself. I’ve called my Cancer Services clinic to get another opinion. When I called to get an appointment with another oncologist, they looked up my file ‘oh you are Dr. White’s patient’. I said yes but I want an opinion on bone density med. The gal said ‘please hold , I’ll have to speak w/ someone about this situation’. 😳. Lol. That was 1 1/2 weeks ago. I called after a week and said ‘ Hi Marissa - I doke to you about getting an appointment with another oncologist, you said it was a Situation’. She even laughed. Said someone would call me. No call , been about 4 days. I guess the situation hasn’t been resolved. 🤷‍♀️💪🏼 I’ll keep calling them!! Never give up.

@omega20 , I am starting Zometa today 9/1. I’ve been on Anastrozole for 2 years & no one mentioned bone density meds to me. When I did my bone density in May I found I had moved from Osteopenia to Osteoporosis! Saw my oncologist in June he never recommended any treatment to me. It has taken me this long to research this and thanks to this forum snd all your posts that are so helpful & change Oncologists to finally get some treatment. I’m hoping my Zometa infusion goes well for me. I’m not having side effects from Anastrozole thank goodness.

Finally got an appointment w/ another oncologist. He spent the time w/ me explaining estrogen levels in regard to my taking Anastrozole. He went over my bone density current test as well the summary I wrote up of my history of bone density tests, do he could easily see the numbers snd changes. I felt he was thorough and concertos me. He recommended options & recommended Zometa infusion. I will have my first one today 9/1. Thanks to this group & forum I went into my appointment with more knowledge snd could ask knowledgeable questions. Thank you all. Blessings

Yay! I am so glad you are finally get some help for bone loss. These issues are related to our breast cancer and we need to be able to turn to our doctors for help. Good job advocating for yourself. 😍

Infusion of Zometa done. Ppl were very nice. My BP was pretty darn high - white coat syndrome, as always my BP is low. 😂🤷‍♀️ Just been a few hours- but so far so good.

It went very well. Ppl were very kind and caring. They start w/ saline solution & then Zometa Took 20 min. of med.
Been a few hours & all is good. I’m sure it will continue & thinking there won’t be any problems. 🤞🏻

I was a nervous wreck and had a headache the day of. My blood pressure was 186/85. However, It all went very well. I was scheduled to be in the infusion room (very crowded) for one hour. The LPN got the needle in the vein very quickly with not much pain. She then ordered the zometa from the pharmacy. I am not sure what went wrong at that point but it did not come. She had to order again which extended my stay. I am not complaining because some people were there for two hours getting infusion. I do not think I had any side effects from the actual infusion but I did not feel well the next day (headache etc from the stress). I think I will be more relaxed next time (although it was not a great experience and I doubted my decision at times and wished I had taken Prolia instead). I am okay with it now. Time will tell. I guess it is possible to switch these osteo meds? Not sure though.
