My daughter came down with this and nobody knows what it is! We know it is not varicella , contact dermatitis, or ring worm. She has had tons of tests and is on 21 pills a day she is 11!!!! Her sister and sister in law now have it too! Anybody ever seen this?

@mommaof5 This does look like a troubling problem. Have you consulted a dermatologist or an infectious disease specialist? It sounds like your doctor is treating this, but without success. Does this seem like an infection and is it connected to a place where all 3 of them could have contacted this? It may be contagious between individuals, and certainly seems like that from the way you have described it. Are they taking precautions so as not to spread this to others? If it is an infection, disinfecting surfaces and handwashing might be very important to avoid spreading it.

Since this is a patient forum, and no one here is a medical professional, no one can give a diagnosis. I did look at some dermatology websites and found something that looks a bit similar which is a bacterial infection, so it might we worth asking your doctor if it matches something in the photos.

Thank You for the reply! The bacterial culture came back negative:( They were not in the same place so it has to be contagious.

@mommaof5 Do you need a referral to be seen? This does not look like it can wait months to me. Reading the links I sent talks about a bacteria making deep wounds that produce scars. That doesn't sound like it can wait. Sometimes an infection needs hospitalization if antibiotics are not handling the job. I recently was treated for an infection from a wasp sting, and was told if it turned out to be antibiotic resistant, I would need to go to the hospital to be treated with IV antibiotics. The first antibiotic wasn't stopping it and 2 days later the dark red infection on my ankle was spreading. Luckily the 2nd antibiotic added to the first did clear the infection. Have you tried being seen at an urgent care? Did your doctor treating this infection think it was advisable to wait months to be seen by a specialist? What if your doctor were to consult a specialist at another medical center so they can continue to treat you based on the new information? I know that Mayo Clinic does this.
