My Ophthalmologist prescribed preservision. The expense is keeping me from getting this over the counter supplement. Is there an organization that would allow me to receive for free ?
I have had 3 days of reactions to Lutein and Z…I was deeply fatigued on day one. The next morning I woke up with disabling vertigo. This is day 3 and I am still too dizzy to drive or work. I have a migraine disorder, fibromyalgia, other autoimmune disorders as well. It’s been a long time, however, since I’ve had one this bad lasting days. I would like to take the components of lutein. I wonder if juicing carrots and other beta carotene rich veggies would help. How would it compare? Has anyone had this reaction?

I have been taking two pills a day, as instructed by my ophthalmologist about three years ago, with no reaction whatsoever. The supplement is expensive, so I remain a Costco member so I can buy them there. They typically go on sale ($7 off a bottle) every few months, and I stock up them. I did the math; I am saving more than the cost of the membership by purchasing them there. Costco does deliver these free where I am (central California) but I don't know if this applies to all areas. If you go to the Areds2 website, you may find some coupons that will help.
It seems unlikely that the lutein and zeaxanthin would cause gastrointestinal distress. It's more likely that you are reacting to the mineral components. It may help to take the supplement with meals.

Thanks for replying. I’ve been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, migraine/ chronic, autoimmune disorders known and unknown for 30 years. I have loads of blood work regularly.
I am doing better with one after breakfast and one after dinner now. Thank you for your comments.

I took one dose of the active ingredients and among migraine, vertigo and muscle weakness I also have urges to vomit. Didn’t so far.

Have you had blood work done? I had inexplicable low sodium that led to extreme fatigue and loss of appetite.

Thanks for the info.
@am1953 - You might want to discuss it with your ophthalmologist. I think you probably are taking AREDS 2 now. I think Preservision is part of the brand name of the AREDS 2. Here's an old article from 2013 when AREDS changed to AREDS 2 - Which is Better: AREDS 1 or 2?: https://www.reviewofoptometry.com/article/which-is-better-areds-1-or-2. Then there was some confusion when AREDS 2 changed to the "New" AREDS 2 - https://www.scottpautlermd.com/confusion-between-preservision-areds-2-and-new-preservision-areds-2/
