Essay question (?) for new patients
When I applied to be a patient at Mayo a couple of years ago I remember a question on the application that was almost like a college essay question. It was something to the effect of "Why do you think you would benefit from being a patient at Mayo Clinic?" I've tried to find that question on the website but can't. Does anyone remember the exact wording? And do they no longer ask that question?

The form has been updated and now consists of 4 short sections:
1. Patient Information
This section takes about 5 minutes. You are asked to fill out information like your name, age, and contact information.
2. Primary Concern
This section takes about 2 minutes. You are asked 2 questions:
a. Please tell us about your primary medical concern. This will help us learn about how we can help. In 300 characters (~60 words) or less.
b. Are there any other medical concerns you’d like to discuss? In 300 characters (~60 words) or less
3. Insurance Details
4. Wrap up
No more essay questions. Phew.

Sorry, I meant 2019. Just two years ago!
I remember answering that question in 2016.

We all want to know what you answered AND if they graded you. Haha. Silly bunch these dr/researchers.
I can’t remember and it was a month or two back - I can’t blame Chemo brain any longer, so I’ll need to add total blackouts to my list of symptoms for something to be determined! Lol
It's hard for me to remember all the details, which is why I posted. I know I was very anxious about being accepted as a patient at Mayo. I had a pretty severe orthopedic problem and was facing surgery on my upper spine. At some point I went back and "rewrote" my answer to the question, incorporating a lot of the specific medical terminology that I'd picked up from one of the clinical reports from a non-Mayo doctor. I don't know if that did the trick, but Mayo did take me on, and the surgery was quite successful. Hoping you have equally positive results.
