Third vaccine to boost antibodies against COVID infection?

The test I had was part of my participation in John Hopkins study. I totally agree both amounts are the same. I was hoping for a big bump like some that have had that are in a discussion group with fellow John Hopkins study people. Factors at play seem to be Years from transplant and type of meds. The longer out had better results. I also agree that there may be no known difference in immunity with low to high number. We should all assume we got zero. In the future with more study they may find a target number to shoot for. Or might find zero correlation. The more data the better. Third shot was very easy. I experienced zero side effects. Very Sorry about hear about swelling with toes. There definitely seems to be weird things with some vaccinations. Waiting to give toes more time to heal sounds smart. Wish you the best of luck with it. I did 3 Pfizer.

I got my third dose of Moderna on Tuesday. No problems and no reaction issues, other than a sore arm.I got it at Walmart and had to verify (just verbally) that I was eligible. I have given my record information to my transplant team. I tried to send a photo of my record card, but it wouldn’t send so I just wrote down the info and sent it. I offered my insurance card to Walmart, but she didn’t want it, just my Medicare card.

@cmael, it took me a couple of tries before I could send photo of my covid registry card. After I moved farther away from the card, it was the right size and it sent.
Later that afternoon I got an email response from CVS with a printable receipt with vaccine information that is actually legible! I guess I’ll put it in my files if ever needed .

You had just had your transplant and were waiting for labs, while I was there for my annual checkup. And we had communicated on Connect during the previous week!

Yes Rosemary, I sure do remember. It’s been 3 years and my daughter’s A1 kidney is doing a good job for me. So grateful! I’m smiling too, knowing that you remember me.

My husband and I got our third doses today. He offered to show the pharmacist his transplant scar as proof of his solid organ surgery. They took my word as an active cancer patient. We did have to sign an attestation to the fact we were eligible, and they looked each of us up in the state database. This was at our not-so-local Walmart, Pfizer brand.

I got a call today (8/19) from the VA that they are now making appointments for a third shot for selective patients. I told them I had gotten it yesterday. She was able to verify my shot and would update my VA record.

Ginger, isn't there a card to carry around that states that someone is a transplant recipient?

@merpreb I am not aware of a card. I did have it placed in Bill's MedicAlert file, plus on his bracelet from them. And, like he said, you cannot miss that scar!

I am 16 years post pancreas transplant. I take Tacrolimus. I got 1st & 2nd dose of Moderna in March and April. The only reaction I had was a sore arm. Thursday I got a 3rd dose at my local primary clinic. At the reception desk they asked me a bunch of questions about my Medicare status and gave me a form to fill out about my eligibility. The injection went fine and I developed a sore arm (as expected) later in the day. BUT the next day that vaccine kicked my butt! I had a splitting headache, aches & pains all over my neck, back and extremities. I had bouts of nausea with dry heaves and I was so tired but couldn’t sleep because I hurt so bad. I spent the day moving from bed to recliner to couch and sipping on my go to for nausea & staying hydrated (20 oz glass filled with ice chips, cranberry juice and some clear soda). At bedtime I took acetaminophen. Today I’m feeling much better, but will lay low the rest of the weekend.

@cehunt Both my husband and I had sore arms the first day, I also had reaction the second day after the 3rd vaccine. Headache, nausea in early afternoon, slight fever. Still held to my chemo schedule, and feeling fine today.
