Cost of stem cell therapy at Mayo
I am having stem cell therapy on my left knee tomorrow. I did not realize Mayo was doing this already. For those of you who have had this done at Mayo, what was the cost? If you wanted to be part of the research, how do you get into that?

I just had an injection of Hymovis a month ago and it worked a lot better than SynviscOne for me. Both were covered by Medicare. I also paid out of pocket $1,500 per knee for AmnioFix which did nothing for me.
Left knee became wrenched, for years of playing golf. Quit golf about 9 months ago. I can still walk, though carefully, but going up and downstairs are difficult. I've spoken to several friends who had stem cell surgery and they have recovered from knee problems. I am seriously considering returing to Mayo for stem cell surgery. I am healthy and take eliqius for AFib,+ vitamines. I had prostate surgery at Mayo about year 2000. Can you help? Please advise, thank you! Denis
Hello @denishous, Welcome to Connect. I checked into stem cell therapy but my Mayo Doctor didn't think it would work for me as my degenerative arthritis was already too bad so I went with a knee replacement I still think it is the way to go if you are younger. I was 75 at the time and had already been turned down from a clinical trial because I was older than 70. Here is some information from 2018 you might find helpful.

Have you thought about having your doctor give you a referral to Mayo Clinic?
Thanks for your experience and comment. I am fortunate being healthy except for having to take a blood thinner (eliquis) for AFIB. The stem cell operatiion is not as invasive as a knee replacement. My friends recommends it as they have told me that the knees have returned to normal. I am looking forward to walking uptstairs and downstairs without pain. Denis
i did the stem cells and then PRP. I am bone on bone but it feels better and i use the regennexx knee brace. Better than TKR as i had a bad experience with a TKR
Orthopedic surgeon recommended stem cell procedure before knee replacement. Honest comment.

My son-in-law and 2 sisters + my friend in Tokyo had their operation recently, They are bouyed by the results, and recommend it highly.
Where did you have this done - Mayo?
local Dr in Toledo. They work with Regenexx. Had my back done with PRP and its been 6 years and no problems. I would recommend PRP as the first thing i would do. It is expensive but some people are now getting insurance. I noticed the dermatology offices are giving PRP to women to grow hair.
