Third vaccine to boost antibodies against COVID infection?

Posted by lizzy102 @lizzy102, Apr 25, 2021

Has anyone heard of or has information about transplanted folks receiving a third or another set of vaccines? I’m 20+ years out on my renal transplant and am thinking this might be a good thing to try.

I have a question about your comment in regard to your health insurance approving your vaccine. My understanding is that the vaccine is free to anyone. Why would someone need their insurance company to approve it? I didn’t need any kind of approval. I just walked into Walgreens, handed them my vaccination card and told them I needed the third shot.

Great question. I am also aware that I had to present my medical insurance cards when I first registered. I have no answer for this.

I asked the pharmacist that very same question. She said that the insurance is billed first. The Federal Grant does pay for anyone without insurance. There should be no cost to the recipient.
My non-acceptance was due to a technical tissue where the insurance had not entered the updated 3rd vaccination approval.

-Bottom line is - WooHoo, I got the vaccination and have only had a 'first day "1 -Tylenol" arm discomfort.

@nanannrose and @merpreb I found this article in my Wisconsin Covid info hotline regarding insurance cards being presented for covid vaccinations.

Deputy Secretary Julie Willems Van Dijk, Wisconsin Department of Health Services addressed the matter Thursday during one of the regularly scheduled media briefing conference calls.

ANSWER:
“Getting vaccinated is free of charge to you. Vaccinators may ask for your insurance information so that they can bill for an administration fee, but that fee cannot be passed on to you-- no deductibles, no co-pays, and you do not need to be insured. And you do not need an ID to receive the vaccine. You may be asked about ID to confirm your appointment, but you cannot be turned away, if you do not have an ID. We have reinforced this information with our over 2,000 vaccinators that ID is not required and that people may not be charged for vaccine. So let me be very clear, If you are uninsured, you can get vaccinated. If you are undocumented, you can get vaccinated. If you are 16 years or older, you can get vaccinated. And please, please do so. The more of us who get vaccinated, the closer we get to community immunity and a safer Wisconsin,” Willems Van Dijk said.

I got word from my oncologist to go ahead and get my third shot, and I start chemo this Friday. My husband [a kidney transplant recipient] will hopefully get our third vaccines tomorrow [Thurs] when we pick up his meds from the not-so-local pharmacy.

We both had Pfizer vaccines earlier in the year. This pharmacy is reserving their Pfizer stock for youngsters, and utilizing Moderna for adults. But told us they would make an exception in our cases. Be sure to check which one you are getting, before you roll up your sleeve!

Mine is Moderna, but Dave had Pfizer.

I got my third shot today at Safeway, on advice from the VA. The VA is not ready for third shots, but approve of them. Did not require proof of transplant.

I had my antibodies test the morning of my third dose on Monday. I was hoping for a higher number then my last test a month ago. I was disappointed when I got my results and I had dropped from 43 to 40. Both number are pretty low. 🙁 hope 3rd time is the charm.

Zon-There is always what is called "The standard error of the difference" So one point is nothing. Please remember that this only tells you that you have antibodies in your blood but not how immune you are. These tests aren't even recommended by the CDC.

I had toe surgery and my inclination is to do things impulsively. But after thinking about how much of a ractions I had with my second Moderna shot I don't want anything to cause swelling as my toes and foot heals. So I'll wait until a bit later.

I'm so glad that you got your third shot.
