Grover's Disease tied to Shinglix Vaccine
A member of the Grover's Disease, GD, discussion questioned if he could have acquired GD from his Shingles Vaccine as he began having GD symptoms after the shot. It made me realize my last outbreak began 3 days after my Shinglix vaccine shot. I read nothing about this on the literature for this shot I studied on the internet. I saw my dermatologist yesterday to ask if there was a tie in and he said, "Yes, 100% this vaccine can initiate or cause GD symptoms to return". For those not familiar with GD look it up. It is an intensely itching and painful torso rash that comes and goes for life. The collagen in the skin is changed. I can't believe Shingles is any more miserable. I so wished I had checked with my dermatologist first. Presently a prescription is not needed for this shot and can be given at any pharmacy which has it in stock. I also did not read anything on all the pages I signed warning me that it could trigger this disease before I got this shot at Sam's Club. My dermatologist is Jonathan Bellew, DO of the Mohave Skin and Cancer Center in Arizona and Nevada.

So glad you have written this as my GD arrived after having the shingles vaccination I have found 2 creams that reduce the itch 1 Sorbolene cream 2 Peppermint based anti inflammatory cream
I'm glad a topical treatment is helping with the symptom's of GD. I'm still GD free for several years now because of the cilantro smoothie heavy metal detox. I only make a smoothie now about once every few months; had one this morning.
I too got my GD after my shingles shot(s). If you follow this blog, you will see that the Cilantro smoothies are the most effective way of stemming the itching.
Thankyou I.m into my third day of Cilantro smoothy and already improved however the most effective has been the anti inflam cream it immediately reduces the heat and itch and I can get a good nights sleep
I've been trying to cut down my cilantro smoothies but find that it flares up again if I skip a couple days. I use the zinc oxide also when I need a topical. That seems to help more than the triamcinolone cream. I'm so thankful for this group and the opportunity to share information and learn from each other..
I read periodically about people getting GD after Shingrix vaccine (for shingles.) I want to remind people that when this happens to you, please report it to https://vaers.hhs.gov This is the government's system for reporting possible side effects from vaccinations. If you don't report it, they can't know about it or respond. Also, please encourage your doctors who tell you they believe the two are connected to report to VEARS - there's a separate link on their site for doctors to report these connections.
There is also a Shingrix hotline. I spoke to them several times when I first contracted the disease. The first time, before I was diagnosed with GD, I asked them if there were any cases of people experiencing severe itching after receiving the vaccine, and was told "no". Lol. The second time, after I was diagnosed, I spoke with a very empathetic woman who said she would pass my concerns to the powers that be. Of course I never heard from them again.
I had an immediate reaction after my first shingles shot. I was told it was chicken pox, then my dermatologist told me it was an allergy. This was in December 2019. Finally in April of 2020 I got my second shot, with no change in the torso symptoms. In May 2021, the irritation spread to my legs and arms. I went to another dermatologist who immediately told me it was Grover's Disease. I started looking through the literature. Zip. No known cause, no cure, use topical remedies for relief and after 9-12 months it goes away, but might recur.
Then I thought that there might be a connection between the shingles vaccine and Grover's as I was hiking this morning. I ran a search through Duck Duck Go and found you all! Is there a recipe for the smoothie I could borrow?
Very simple: Cilantro, either frozen or fresh, juice, some sort of fruit, yogurt if you want, blend WELL. Get several bunches of Cilantro, rinse, split in half, put in baggies and freeze. You’re ready to go. The smoothie tastes better cold. The capsules are not effective.
Shingrix was the cause of my Grovers as well.
