Seizure Behavior

Posted by yvette1961 @yvette1961, Jul 8, 2021

During my recent seizure - sometime during the episode, I was told that I said some horrible things to someone I care about deeply. I also was told that I drove a car during a seizure ( I am not sure but I think it was occipital lobe for the latter). I was told that I acted drunk. Is this normal??

Hello there,
This behavior is more uncommon than common but some people cuss, some laugh, cry, others become angry/aggressive.
Many other people do it as well so don't worry about it.
Take care,
Jake

Another unusual behavior during a seizure is inhibition. someone I know in England went to a McDonald’s and completely undressed.

I have been studying my seizures now trying to figure out what causes them (past 10 years). So I asked my family to video tape them when they occur. I don't have as many since I believe I know what causes them and I get less since asking, but for your question.... When I'm on the ground shaking, no, communication is not there, but when I start coming out of it, it's talking but cannot be understandable, I also get in my phone, which is in sleep mode, and will be swiping through the screens as if something was there. Then as time goes on, I become a little more understandable. Then they slowly tell me where I am and I'm coming out of a seizure. It still takes minutes before I even understand what they just told me.

Almost any kind of strange behavior is possible when one has a psychomotor seizure. As a child I used to hug someone , some people saying I was grabbing them, out of fear that I experience during the seizure.

Hi @yvette1961
What kind of seizures do you have? Are they focal or generalized?
I usually have focal complex seizures (temporal lobe epilepsy), some few motors, and more non- motors. During those seizures, I lose my capacity to speak, though my husband says I still can communicate with some signs.
For example. Last Friday, I had a complex seizure (non-motor) and confused my eye drops with rescue spray, applying my eye drops as a rescue spray. My husband tried to help me by giving me the rescue spray, but I refused and I did not let him apply it. I understood I became somehow aggressive, which is usually not the case. This last Saturday I had another complex seizure and I have let my husband apply the rescue spray without any problems. Same situations, different reactions. All that, I naturally do not remember, he tells me afterward.
As @artificialsugar also mentioned, when I come out I start talking, but it is usually not understandable. It takes a few minutes, usually. I agree with @Isittll, strange behaviors are possible during seizures.

The strange behavior exhibited in temporal lobe psychomotor seizures is often mistaken as mental behavior. The kids in school thought I was a mentally ill person to begin with because of my seizures.

Hi @lsittll, Sad to hear that those kids have behaved that way with you, Such kids and people do not deserve to receive our attention and energy. As I wrote in another post, I know it is easier to say than to behave this way.
