Have you experienced side effects from Metformin 500 mg 2xDay?

Has anyone experienced excessive sleepiness or lassitude or other bad side effects from 2 Metformin 500 mg per day? Or any side effects from Trulicity?

@gamesjr Hi Gene, and welcome to Connect.
I was on Metformin for a while a few years ago but never had any negative effects from it. I reached a point though where it was no longer needed so now I just control my blood sugar through diet. I was also on 500 mg, two times a day. At one point when I was on prednisone temporarily, I had to increase to 850 mg.
I have never been on Trulicity.

on metformin 500mg twice daily and constantly running to the bathroom to empty my bladder and bowels. Is there something I can take to slow down or stop that problem.

Sorry, @rogerglenn I never had that problem with metformin. I do have frequent bathroom calls but that's just basic incontinence and it wasn't as bad when back when I was taking metformin which was quite a while ago - I'm not saying that metformin helped it, just that my incontinence wasn't bad back then.

I have oxybutinin which I take when I am out and about but taking it every day is constipating for me. I won't take laxatives but like a high fiber diet. One metformin a day in the evening is adequate for me now that I have so many vegetables in the garden. Try a wide variety and balance your diet nutrients. Eat the protein first and don't eat a snack without protein in it. Think of it as a food adventure rather than an eating problem. Try new fresh foods. I like everything but kale and I am learning to eat baby beets. Plan your days for frequent bathroom trips. It is necessary.

Be careful when these bladder control medicines are offered. I took another product which the doctor said I would like very much and the pill gave me terrible side affects. My heart raced and i wanted to go to the emergency room in the middle of the night. I lasted until the pill wore off and never took another one. I forget the name, and it is probably an individual thing anyway. Always read the side affects before taking your meds so you can decide if it is worth the taking. Some side affects subside, and others don't. I had problems with nausea with Metformin but stayed with two pills at night until my numbers went down over time, and then I cut back to one pill. I am planning on cutting that pill as well this summer so long as I have vegetables from the garden which I love. I need to remember to drink more water, regardless, but we all know what that does to our bathroom trips. Dorisena

@rogerglenn :

I had a problem only after taking metformin the first day, with unexpected “runs”, but after that I’ve never had any of the issues others seem to have.

I would suggest you ask your doctor about the problems you’re having. There may be something else going on that you’re attributing to the metformin. I’ve taken it for almost 20 years, the majority of those on a dosage of 4 (500mg) pills per day. After the first day, never had a problem with it.
