Tdrell, Thanks for that info! Is it too much trouble to locate the guidelines given for future scanning so we can share those with our doctors? I was planning on asking my doc to order a CT scan for me to compare with earlier ones when I go back in the next 4 - 6 weeks and would like to have that information before calling if you still have it. Thanks so much! Linda

@windwalker, you said that chlorine concentrates the MAC, does this mean that it does not kill MAC? Do we know that peroxide does kill these bugs?

Heather, according to what one of the experts said at the recent NTM
conference, it was only stated that chlorine concentrates MAC. They do not
recommend cleaning your counter-tops etc. with it. Not sure about the peroxide.
I cannot remember if I heard it there or on this forum about spraying peroxide
on your toothbrush after use. I know that Katherine does it. Will have to
investigate that more. someone in the audience did ask about WHAT to use to
clean with and they had no answer.

Can't find the post where someone said you can fill a bag with? Solution & tie it around your shower head to kill any Mac present. Was it peroxide? If so, what ratio?

Hi Dale, that was me. Fill a baggie with straight vinegar and take a twist
tie and tie it off at the neck of the shower head. Leave on overnight. That
should kill the MAC residing inside.

I asked about peroxide on a NJ sponsored webinar...was told no research has been done to determine its efficacy for killing mycobacteria...doesn't mean it won't work, simply that we don't know for sure, and if so, at what concentration,

Boomer, when I recommended the peroxide to use on toothbrushes .. it was related to oral thrush rather than mycobacteria .. with my using two inhalers I try to do anything to avoided that dreaded oral thrush! Katherine

Peroxide was recommended by several website ie:
http://www.nytimes.com/health/guides/disease/thrush/overview.html
Use a soft toothbrush and rinse your mouth with a diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide solution several times a day.

Don't want to confuse anyone. Katherine

@windwalker Thanks for your post. A family member has asthma and while she has never been diagnosed with MAC, her symptoms are always worse after swimming in a chlorinated pool which is unfortunate because swimming is such a good exercise for asthmatics. Teresa

Chlorine is commonly used as an antiseptic and is used to make drinking water safe and to treat swimming pools. I know it's unheard of to wear mask when swimming but do they have any evidence pools are unhealthy? I.e., perhaps skin irritation. I like my Good Life membership just being careful - no underwater dunk..

Hi Tessie,

I became sensitive smells after coming down with MAC.
Chlorine was one of them. I couldn't even sit beside a swimming pool without
getting all 'Feclempt' - a yiddish word for gummed up in the throat & lungs.
I don't go into pools or hot tubs any longer. At the conference there was
mention that chlorine actually concentrates the MAC bacteria. I wonder if my
aversion to chlorine was my bodie's way of telling me to stay clear, that it is
unsafe for me?
