Mycobacterium marseillense, yongonense, chimaera, and immunogenum
My latest culture identification just came back from NJH with unable to differentiate between chimaera and yongonese. It had also mentioned Marsaeillense. The previous identification from another date showed immunogenum. I am so confused!

Good morning, I don't blame you for feeling confused. There are about 200 strains of non-tubercular mycobacteria. Of those, roughly 20 are of concern in humans, including only m.immunogen from your list, which was apparently not detected in the current sample. I'll try to remember to give you a link when I get to a PC - can't do it on this device.
Have you heard from your provider yet?

1 ReactionI'll be seeing him next week. This is my second time with NTM. The last one was now 4 years ago. I certainly don't remember all these strains back then. My current ID doctor was going to have me start inhaled Arikayce due to the immunogenum but I'm not so sure now that it didn't show up. I'm glad I waited to order it. I'd appreciate the link. Thanks

Dr. Huitt, a contributor to the first one, was one of my doctors the first time I had this. I see the date is 2007. Didn't they come out with a new statement in 2020? I wonder if the new strains are included. I'll see if I can find it.

@jenblalock Have not heard of some of those, hopefully they do not cause any problems. I wonder if maby Amikacin kills off so much lung flora that then after finishing the meds all sorts of new different ones grow back in our lungs, this could be a problem for future drugs. Take care Jen. Heather
