How much covid protection are transplant recipients really getting
When will the CDC update their guidance on immunocompromised people and how much protection were getting from these vaccines. Are we still at risk even after vaccination?

Here is what I have to add from my notes. It is from a response to a question that was directed to Donny Segev.
Is there hope? - Yes. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, even though it is dimmer for transplant patients.
-Get vaccinated.
-T-cell, B-cells, 3rd dose are already being studied.
-Things will get better. ie 17% antibody after 1 dose, 54% after 2nd dose of vaccine.
-Be careful in the time being; wait to hear more. Updates as more is known.
Thanks to both of you for additions. It was a lot of info to process. I received email that I’m going to be added to T,B-Cell studies. I will update information as time goes on. For reference in this study I didn’t receive any antibodies from either shot. I take 750 mico in the AM & 500 PM and 1.5 tac in the Am 1 in the PM. 3 years post transplant.
@zon, do you know if the T and C cell study is open to someone who didn’t participate in the vaccine study?
Hi Rosemary
Yes, I bet they would love as many people as possible. This is email to the study group. They usually respond within a day. Just like Mayo they are wonderful, dedicated people that have been great to work with. I encourage anyone that is interested to reach out and ask to be added to T and C cell studies. Feel free to pass this around. The more people we have involved the better!

1 more side note. My wife is in a Facebook group that has discussions about topics we have been chatting about. I’m not a Facebook person but if you are type in Facebook Transplant vaccine study group. There are 150 members.
Here is NPR story about the study. https://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2021/05/12/transplant-coronavirus-vaccine
@zon, Thank you. I'll let you know what I find out.
I meant to say T and B-cells. (I see where you copied my error) Sorry.
I’m glad you’re in the next study. I had the Pfizer vaccine, I’m just 8 months post- transplant, I take MFF, and I’ll be 62 next month…I’m figuring I have little protection. At least I live in Vermont where more than 70% of adults have been vaccinated!
This is so depressing!
I am 5 months post transplant at Mayo. Like you, take 750/500 Mycophenolate and 3/3 Tacrolimus.
I had longed to do some international travel, but it sounds like from your take away that it would not be recommended.
I have had 2 Pfizer vaccines, as have most of my family.
My 4 month biopsy was perfect, and I am so thankful to my cousin for donating and for Dr Prieto for my kidney transplant and bilateral nephrectomy.
It just makes me sad that this virus will limit our freedom.
I’m so glad you are doing so well. Dr Prieto was also my surgeon!! What a great group of docs and nurses we had! I had to cancel a two week trip to Italy in April when the virus blew up. I’m so looking forward to the day we get replan the trip. I fear it will be longer then we would like. The longer we get from transplant the better our immune systems will be. Best wishes on continuing great recovery
