Confused: Lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis and more

Posted by shamrock5jeg @shamrock5jeg, May 4, 2021

New to this forum. Actually, never tried any type of forum so I really don't know what I'm doing. Anyhow, after reading some of the posts I guess I am not so bad off. I have lung cancer in my right lung, pulmonary fibrosis, peripheral neuropathy, chronic pancreatitis and just developed shingles last week. Am treating skin cancer on my forehead with fluorouracil cream. Need more radiation for Basel cell on my neck. Left lung cancer was treated with SBRT and is "cured".Right lung is not being treated due to the fibrosis. Still function pretty good, Only take 4 meds. Walking is the biggest problem. Want to dance again, walk, climb stairs, drive a stick shift. Want my legs Back! Sorry I rambled on. My heart goes out the others I read about. Wish they could solve all the problems, it hurts to me to read their stories and makes mine so trivial.

Have you tried pursed-lip breathing? It's awkward at first but after a while, you learn to get deep breaths into the lower part of your lung (s), hence more O2 to breathe easier.https://www.lung.org/lung-health-diseases/lung-disease-lookup/copd/patient-resources-and-videos/pursed-lip-breathing-video. It made a big difference to me.

Yes, tried it. Guess my problem is not sticking to things that work. Maybe I'm not bad enough or just refuse to except the fact that I'm dying.

Not sticking to things is a no, no if you want to move. It's very hard to accept our diseases at times. I know that someday my lung cancer will kill me too. And I go back and forth with a feeling of panic and then acceptance. I don't dwell on it though. But if you want to live the rest of what time you have you need to concentrate on the here and now. It's called mindfulness. But never mind the trendy word. It works. So if you want to kick up your legs and heels than live in the here and now. The future will take care of itself. Do the things that will help you get there. Ok?

@merpreb. Man your tough!! I needed that, thanks. Every word is right on. I don't dwell on it most of the time though, just running too hard to live before I can no longer do anything. Need to take time to do what you are saying. If I stop to do the things like exercise, etc. I start thinking. Yea, I'm lonely, sad, worried, and mad as h---. I spend my time taking care others so I don't have time to think. Your comment was good and on the spot, thank you.

Anytime! I want you to watch this video. I believe it will get you on the road to purse-lip breathing. He's a pro:

@merpreb. One for bp (under control) methylprednosolone for copd, creon for pancreatitis and inhaler for copd. Helps the breathing but really messed up my voice. Been 5 years of being alone with memories and heartache. It never ends.

Good afternoon. You mentioned that you spent the day helping others. What is it that you do?

I don't do it every day. Guess my friends think I know everything because I' m so old! Maybe because I had 64 yrs of a good marriage I'm supposed to be a marriage counselor. Taint the way it works McGee! I'm too good of a listener I know. Guess I should change my ways. Driving 30 miles into Tampa again tomorrow because a friend thinks she has cancer of the gum. Going with her to Moffitt for a check up. So it goes!

@shamrock5jeg- Now that's a worthy cause. Helping friends is what we are supposed to do, right? It's not always a pleasurable thing, but afterwards it feels darn good!

Well, Shamrock, you need to realize what a gift you are and the extent of the gifts of listening and helping are to each of us. That, I believe, as I was saying to my dear cousin last night, is why we're here.....to help other people. We have insights and gifts we can offer to others that no one else has, so you, sir, are being used by our God or Higher power or whomever you call him, for the good purposes He put you here.
Embrace it. Love it. Be thankful for the gifts you give and therefore, you receive many times more!
Blessings, elizabeth

Thank you. It gets hard to do sometimes especially when know you have more problems then they do. I have to fight my lung cancer and pulmonary fibrosis every minute.Need to stop saying I'm fine. Oh well, too old to change now, just keep listening to my country music and dream about dancing again. Thank you again.
