Off Paxil about 8 Months, Having Panic Attacks Again
I haven't had a panic attack in about 7 years. I've been off Paxil for about 8 months and now I'm starting to have panic attacks again. It's scary. Since I don't have medical insurance, it's not so easy to get the Paxil...I'll try the "home remedies" like meditation.

i've had panic attacks and anxiety problems for about 7 years now. doc started me on paxil and that didn't go well. i was on effexor for the rest of the time til about a month ago. i got tired of taking drugs and quit cold turkey. its been pretty rough, but i'm hoping i can handle it with excersise and eating healthier.
I understand your pain. I started having panic attacks a year ago. The thing that helped me the most was seeing a good psychologist. I know it's tough when you don't have insurance, but your mental health is worth it.
Hi I don't have panic attacks personally but my hubband is an agoraphobic and it breaks my heart to watch him suffer with this illness he truly wants help but the disease keeps him from being able to even go to the doctor I can tell he is miserable
I am so sorry that you are going through this, have you tried going to the Department of human services in your area, as if you do not have insurance ,they may offer some help for you there. If not then contact the social security office to see what they can do for you. I have panic attacks too, I am currently on Zoloft for MS but it actually took my panic attacks away. Best wishes to you my friend.
My sister use to be an agoraphobic and then they started a support group for this condition at our local church. Yes, they all came and shared similar experiences that you describe about your husband. I remember the affirmation " THE ANSWER TO WHAT IF...IS SO WHAT. This is what they all had to say when entering the class. It was very uplifting and enjoyable. Maybe you could look up a support group for Agorophobics in your area. Best wishes to you!
Thanks that is a wonderful idea I will check into that
Thank you, Sebley12. I did contact the health services department in my area and now I am receiving the Paxil for $0 and I see a psychiatrist once a month! Whew! When I had that panic attack I thought it was over for me. Thank goodness I reached out to this website and to an old friend who talked me down the evening of the panic attack. It's hard to understand this disease...but I can't ignore it, so I have to do whatever I need to do to fight it.
Don't give up on him. Tell him that there are other people who go through exactly what he does...tell him that there are people who know EXACTLY how he feels. Tell him that it will get better...he has to be brave and courageous and take that first step. Tell him that you'll be right by his side through the whole thing.
Things are so much better now! I started seeing a psychiatrist and I'm back on Paxil. What a relief! In November, when I got off my medication, I was going to try the natural approach with diet and exercise but I was too stressed out. Now, with the medication, I can function much better and the panic attacks are a distant thought.
In November, I stopped my medication (Paxil), but I wasn't ready. I should have waited for a better time, when I was less stressed. Ideally, that is my goal: to exercise and eat healthy. Let me know how it's going.
