"Leaky gut" seems to be fairly tropical at the moment. I wonder if the attention is warranted.

Hi @davejscott and welcome to Connect!

You're right. Leaky gut syndrome is hotly debated at this time.

Here are various opinions on leaky gut:

Gastroenterology & GI Surgery Page on Connect has some great videos about leaky gut, by Mayo Clinic experts: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/page/gastroenterology-and-gi-surgery/ Like this one by Dr. Murray.

@davejscott, is this a condition that you or someone you know is experiencing?

Thank you so much for this info. This has been very helpful! I see this OP is from 2018. Is there newer research or information on this topic? Has the debate been settled whether leaky gut is legitimate for patients who do not have celiac disease?

davejscott, intestinal permeability may be a result of a thiamine deficiency. So asking about "Leaky Gut" may have brought you to learning more about this remarkable vitamin that requires magnesium to become bioactive..

Thank You!

No I haven't. In the stage of going through numerous tests to rule out things at the VA. Doing my own preliminary research.

@eslavik1 Good for you! I think it is so important to be on top of your medical health as much as possible. Physicians are people just like everyone else and though I have the utmost respect for their profession, they can't always be the experts in everything. Being your own advocate is always the best backup when it comes to your health and body. I like to say, "I am the one that knows me best!"

Looking forward to learning from legit sources and experiences. Thanks for this forum.
