How do you cope with Overactive Bladder/Urge incontinence?

Does anyone have suggestions on how to cope with overactive bladder and urge incontinence? Are there any meds that can help without causing unwanted side effects?

I have have found the following help: 1. I know pelvic floor exercises are primarily for stress incontinence, but they do help for urge incontinence. 2. Try to stretch your bladder capacity by hanging on as long as possible. 3. Make sure you tighten your pelvic floor for everything that triggers the urge, e.g. when you hear running water. 4. Also, if you get the urge, don't focus on it. Focus on something else. I have found these things really help, in fact it is very rare that I have any incontinence following these rules. May you find relief.

When I discussed this with my pcp she recommended seeing a urologist and that Dr. referred me to a physical therapist specializing in incontinence. There can be many reasons for this condition, best to get professional help for best advise.

I agree - it is always best to seek out your doctor to ensure no underlying health concerns are present, as well as find the root cause - and hopefully work through it without medication. Medications rarely if ever are capable of having one single effect on the body! The tips shared by @mariyamakabo are great, as well as @lcbrust 's experience with seeing a PT after referral from a primary care doctor.

Best of luck to you! It's frustrating, I get it!

I am the same age you are, and I have to get up at night about every 3 hours. I will be seen by a pelvic floor physical therapist starting April 1st. I hope they can help me a little with getting a normal nights sleep.

Also with my overactive bladder I have no feeling when my pee is coming therefore I have to change at least 4 to 5 times adayu and once at 2am
I have to accept my situation even though it’s very difficult I’m still attending to see the professor so fingers crossed

This is for men with enlarged prostate with natural means to at least reduce toilet trips which happen only when first sleeping.
