Posted by srcroll1 @srcroll1, Mar 4, 2021

Can anyone that has had a recent transplant please tell Me what visitor policy is right now? Can a caregiver be with the patient pre operation while waiting and can you see them after in icu? My husband is double lung pre transplant. Thank you

This is a question that you will need to discuss with the hospital where the transplant will occur. In the best of times and during this pandemic each hospital has its rules and regulations for the safety and health of patients.
Even for non transplant patients there are restrictions for visitors in ICU.
Is your husband current on an active transplant waiting list?

@srcroll1, My liver and kidney transplant was 12 years ago at Mayo MN. My husband was able to be with at the hospital after I got my call. He did spend a lot of the time outside the room because of the busy pro-op activities. He waited in the surgery waiting area during my surgery and was kept updated as the surgery proceeded. He did get to visit me briefly after I was transferred to the post op area. Next day he was with me and I was transferred to my patient room. This was before the Covid restrictions, and for a liver/kidney and not a lung transplant.

I have collected some links that I want to share with you that give information about lung transplant at Mayo.

@srcroll1, It has been a couple of months since you posted. How are you and your husband? Has he been able to transfer to another hospital for his pre-transplant treatment?
