COVID vaccines and neuropathy

Posted by cue @cue, Feb 15, 2021

I am 85 with small fiber neuropathy that is getting worse. My neurologist thought it would be a good idea for me to wait with the covid vaccine and not be first in line to see how it affected other people with neuropathy. Probably because it is a new technology. Has anyone had a problem with neuropathy after receiving the vaccine? If so, which vaccine?

I understand your concerns. I would feel that way too.

Hi have your symptoms improved? I got symptoms three weeks after the first pfizer shot. I have burning in thighs and face. some needles in my arms hands and legs It seems like every day I get a little more. I have already postponed the second shot twice. My neurologist suggested today that I go for the second shot. I'm not convinced.

Hi I feel the same as you. I began having neuropathy symptoms ( burning, tingling, cold/hot sensations) the day after the first Pfizer shot. Tingling for a few days, then burning and other sensations. I went to two doctors - primary care and an oncologist that I see. Both expressed surprise at my symptoms but thought it might be related to an auto immune condition. I, too, have postponed the 2nd shot once and plan to postpone it again. As much as I want to get the vaccine over with, I can't see adding more of this vaccine to my body just now - not when, in my opinion, my immune system is still apparently over reacting. I wish you the very best with your decision - it is so difficult when we have very little, if any, data to guide us.

I wish I would have never taken the second shot. I didn’t know at that point what was causing my issues but it went rapidly and drastically downhill after the second shot.

You have a terrible neurologist. If you had that reaction to the first you're going to have a way worse reaction to the second. I'm six weeks out and it's become manageable it's gone from terrible to mild but I do a heavy dose of supplements

It took about 5 or 6 weeks after the second shot to start calming down but that's with heavy B12 alpha lipoic and pea pure use

joey, I too am still not back to pre COVD vac symptoms, it has improved, but now I have some new issues. How much B12 do you take and is the pea pure part of your normal daily regimen? I was thinking of adding it if you think it’s hugely beneficial. Glad you’re doing better. Helen

I’m more than a year out and my symptoms are still severe. I’m on Tegratol and high doses of Gabapentin. I wish I could get off of them but still, even with them, I can barely walk. I am praying that this will eventually go away.

I don't post very often but have been following al the posts re: neuropathy worsening. And my query is this: If you could go back in time, would you get the 2nd vaccine? I'm having some mild reservations & due to receive it in ~ 2 weeks. I didn't let my PMD know that I had such problems walking, in general, but didn't last that long. There was a bit more burning & restless legs. Plus got a low-grade temp. increase. I'm ok now but was a bit of rough patch. Got the Moderna. Have 2 older sisters....one got the Pfizer a couple of wks. before my 1st shot; had only a little fever & tiredness. Got the 2nd and great. The other sister got the Mderna a few days ago & has not, as of yet, sent an email. I take that back...she wrote later that evening after receiving it & reported both she & hubby had sore arms & a touch of nausea. I don't think she as had anything else or would have said. But I have had pre-existing neuropathy for a few years and neither of them are "lucky" to have that in their hx. Would someone(anyone) advise re; getting 2nd Moderna? Because a pharacist told me to maybe just get the J & J shot and be done w/ it that way. Thanks. I know you'll are not doctors but sounds like more symptoms than I had & am stewing a bit over whole thing. Kathy
