Full face CPAP masks

Full face masks are used by the military and outdoor hunters. I represent several companies that produce masks. My personal favorite are what we call "Gaiters"! I like them because I wear hearing aides and masks pull them off! Second, I put them on when I leave my house! When I go in somewhere I just pull it up over my nose! I don't have to worry about it falling on the floor of the car.
Of course because I sell them I have a dozen or so. Color Coordinate to what I am wearing that day! LOL!
I usually wash them after two times wearing them. Wash and dry and come out great. Also, depending on the fabric sometimes they will stretch out. The dryer gets them back in shape!

Hello @tpfmom11, Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. You will notice that I changed the title of your discussion to eliminate any confusion with a face mask used to protect yourself and others from COVID which is what @sundance6 was thinking when replying to your discussion.

Most full face CPAP masks do not go below the chin but rather just cover below your mouth so that if it opens you are still using the CPAP even though you may be breathing through your mouth. I have the problem of my mouth opening when I sleep on my back sometimes and my current mask the ResMed AirFit F20 (https://www.resmed.com/en-us/sleep-apnea/cpap-parts-support/sleep-apnea-full-products-list/cpap-masks/airfit-f20/) which works well for me. I think Phillips Respironics has mask that covers your entire face but I don't think it goes under the chin. I may have to take a look at it as it looks more comfortable than the one I'm using - https://www.usa.philips.com/healthcare/product/HC1060803/fitlife-full-face-mask.

You can also buy a chin strap that will work with any mask. I think @thankful might be able to share more about using a chin strap.

Oh, good. I should have thought that would be mistaken for face masks for covid-19. I use the ResMed one. And, I have the problem of mouth when I roll onto my back as well. Yes, I have used CPAP for a good 10 years. Wish I had started 10 years before that.

I’m a newbie to CPAP, nearly three weeks. I use the Resmed F30i, find it’s fairly comfortable.
I’m struggling to get to sleep with my CPAP and wondering if others had similar circumstances in the beginning. It’s such a big adjustment and know it takes time, being a light sleeper isn’t helping!

Hello Mattie77. This is a good question.
I've been on CPAP for about 17 years. Also, I am a very light sleeper. It took me a while to get used to the sound and sense of wearing a CPAP face mask and head gear. During this period of CPAP use, I went through several masks and settled on a nasal pillow and head gear obtained from Phillips Respironics. I believe it is called Dreamwear.
Please be patient with yourself. It may take a while to adjust to wearing your mask and head gear and using your CPAP equipment. You may even change masks and head gear. I urge you not to give up. You will eventually be rewarded with the benefits of this sleep therapy. I have benefitted very noticeably.

Side sleeper using Cpap. Is the traditional full face mask best? Am using a hybrid full face mask and when lying on side, it puts pressure on the tubing from top of head to mask so registers as leak.

@akalsas, I'm also a side sleeper using a full face CPAP mask (ResMed AirFit F20) but have also used a hybrid full face mask. What helps tame the CPAP hose for me and keep it out of the way is a hose stand that slides under the mattress and holds the hose above the head.
