Type 2 Diabetes: I have neuropathy in my feet and legs

I am suffering so much with this I can barely take it. Tonight is incredibly painful. I am a Type 2 diabetic. I have adverse reactions to many of the meds the MD has had me try. Gabapentin works some but if I try to take it everyday I get horrible back pain. Same with anti depressants. I get cramping if I increase the dose. I try a few Motrin, no help. Tonight is bad. I have a foot massage machine and used that, Lidocaine and Ativan. Finally I had to take 1/2 of a Vicodin, which is my last resort when I am at an 8 in pain. Are there any tips people use when it’s a bad night? Thank you.

I am taking Nature Made ALA, 1 capsule, 200 mg at bedtime and it has helped me with burning feet and hands caused by peripheral neuropathy. I was taking a less expensive brand, but found that I had to take two 200 mg capsules instead of the one with Nature Made.

I am a type 2 diabetic with neuropathy in my toes, which interfered with my sleep. I've found a topical and a capsule that really help me. Don't know if I'm allowed to mention brand names, but the topical I use contains arnica. It must be rubbed in, not merely put on. Guess how I know that. In addition, I take alpha lipoic acid capsules. I also wear socks to bed year round to keep the sheet from rubbing my toes and causing extra pain. I know how bad my pain can be, so I can't imagine how awful yours must be. Hope you are able to find something that helps you!

I am not sure if you are replying to my posts about stiff joints or another post, but I appreciate the info. I have made a list of the pills I take every day, and am planning to ask about drug interactions at my next dr. Visit. The next one will be an orthopedist. My friend says the problem is diet and exercise. I admit I don’t walk much—only with a cane—and I love chocolate but restrain myself. Will be 80 at my next birthday. All suggestion are welcome. Life is getting difficult. Staying home is getting boring!

Hi Deanna, I’m glad you have found something that works for you since there are so many choices and not all are successful. I am guessing you do not take gabapentin or lyrica. Many here take the alpha lipoic acid, myself included and find it helps a lot with the pain. We have mentioned brand names and where to purchase on this forum in the past so I assume it’s ok. I for one would like to know what exactly you are using, I thought arnica was to prevent bruising, didn’t know it helped with pain. Thanks, Helen

Hi Helen, the topical I use is "MyPainAway Fibro Cream." It's said "To relieve pains associated with fibromyalgia and neuropathy." I ordered it online from Amazon. No, I haven't tried the other two products you mentioned. ~Deanna
