Hello

How do you avoid weight gain when on prednisolone? What diet you should take?

Thanks

@contentandwell I go along with you 8-8 I can't sleep if I'm hungry so have to have crackers or something at night but gained weight with covid so will have to walk more I guess

@lioness I can actually go after 8 without eating, but I have to get to bed early if I do! I tend to be a night owl but I force myself.

@johnbishop That sounds potentially interesting, maybe I will look into that discussion. Of course any weight loss will have a positive effect on diabetes. My A1c is typically below 5 now and I take no drugs for it at all. I am told that even though it is low, I am still considered to be diabetic. Basically, once a diabetic, always a diabetic. Over the years I have lost almost 90 pounds, although right now that number is more like 77 pounds.

As I have mentioned in past posts, for me myfitnesspal is a Godsend. It keeps me accountable. That and my Apple Watch to push me to exercise are my weight loss aids. Since I have "friends" (son, daughter, daughter-in-law, and two other friends) on the Apple Watch who see my daily exercise it pushes me - I don't want to be the slug in the group! I highly recommend a fitness tracker as an aid in keeping up with exercise. I used to have a "Misfit" (not to be confused with "Fitbit") and that did the job for me before I had the Apple. There are many more reasonably priced than the Apple but I also like that the Apple I have detects a fall and sends for help if you don't respond. When I fell and had a minor hip fracture in July 2019, sure enough, the watch spoke to me and I had to respond or it would have sent an ambulance!

JK @contentandwell, That might be a good question to post in the – Low-carb healthy fat living. Intermittent fasting. What’s your why? discussion: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/low-carb-healthy-fat-living-intermittent-fasting-whats-your-why/

When I first started fasting there were times when I was hungry (heck, truth be known, I've always been hungry!). Now that I've been doing 20/4 sprinkled with 18/6 fasting I never feel hungry and most of the time feel satiated after my meals. It's been known to reverse type 2 diabetes and some people no longer need to take insulin after reversing the diabetes. You should join the discussion, lots of good reference information and sharing.

Hi John, I don't intentionally want to ask stupid questions, however, you often use 20/4 and 18/6. Just to be clear, the first number indicates the number of hours you are fasting and the second number indicates the number of hours that you eat. Is this correct?

Teresa @hopeful33250 - No such thing as a stupid question (those are the ones a person fails to ask!). Yes 20/4 means 20 hour fasting window and a 4 hour eating window. 18/6 is same format.
