E coli

Can I ask if you are having possible symptoms or what your experience is with E. coli?

Hello Amanda, I am having pain in my stomach, abdomen, my left arm is hardly moving and I feel pain at the level of my kidneys. I have nausea, especially when I eat smth.

These sound like troublesome symptoms and undoubtedly require medical attention. Have you been told that these problems are related to e-coli?
Have you been evaluated by a physician?

@imatine I had E coli after receiving radiation for pancreatic cancer. My symptoms were fever, chills and vomiting. The E coli was found in my blood not in my digestive system.

@marvinjsturing Thanks for this information, Marvin. So you had a blood test that diagnosed the problem as E coli?

@ imatine - Sorry for butting in here! To find out if you have E.coli in your blood, you will have to have a blood culture - where they will watch for bacteria growth over 2-3 days. There is usually fever present too. E.coli in urine is probably more common. You will need a urine culture for this. With the symptoms you have, this could be a possibility. If a urine E.coli infection is severe, it can enter the blood stream- especially if your immune system is weakened, similar to Marvin.

@hopeful33250 @imatine I had a blood culture done. I was surprised how quickly I got my results. I was in ER from about midnight to 3:00 AM. During that time blood was drawn for the culture. Then they sent me home. Just after lunch, they called me and told me I had to come back to be admitted to the hospital. They ran several tests and never found the cause. I had to have 15 infusions of antibiotics. I have not had problems with E coli since.
