Meralgia Paresthetica

Hi @steeldove, I'm hoping @icornelu and @overwhelmed can share what they have learned as they both have mentioned Meralgia Paresthetica in other discussions.

@steeldove can you share what caused the compression of your lateral femoral cutaneous nerve?

@johnbishop My own guess as to the cause is the fact that because of spinal arthritis, scoliosis, and kyphosis I've lost 4 inches in height, resulting in a lot of compression.

@johnbishop No it hasn't. When I was at Mayo this past summer, Dr. Pingree in Pain Medicine ordered a nerve block injection of my lateral femoral cutaneous bilateral as I have meralgia paresthetica on both legs. It worked beautifully, but for only ten days. Next option we discussed is a peripheral nerve stimulator which I expect will happen when I go back to Mayo this month.

Has anyone been successfully treated for meralgia paresthetica with a peripheral nerve stimulator? SCS trial did nothing for it, and because of my severe scoliosis, leads cannot be placed in my lower lumbar spine.

Did your pain doctor have any new suggestions for treatment?

After I had my first hip replacement I had a lot of of burning in my thigh which eventually went away unfortunately recently it has reoccurred I am waiting for a total hip replacement on the other side I'd also have have quite severe osteoarthritis in my spine it is help my lying down but unpredictably can happen when i move. Does anyone have any experience or advice

Lotsofpain, have you been diagnosed with meralgia paresthetica or do you suspect you might have it and want to find out more?

No I haven't been diagnosed I'm just going by the symptoms

Does Meralgia Paresthetica cause excruciating pain? my mom is suffering from thigh pain for 2 years and she is taking narcotic pain killers which doesn't even work, but she is experiencing excruciating pain. no doctors has officially diagnosed this and i am wondering if she has this condition. Any comment will help. Thank you so much.
