Tested negative for MAC

Posted by sharonp51 @sharonp51, Sep 7, 2020

Just had a Bronchoscopy and tested negative for all fungal and bacteria. I have a small nodule, my last one was a Necrotizing granuloma. Wondering if I have Sarcoidosis. My nodules were 3 yrs apart.

@sharonp51 I think that type of granuloma is associated with an infectious disease. Sarcoid is an autoimmune disease not an infectious one. It can be active or inactive. So glad you were negative. Mycobacterium usually takes six or more weeks to grow. Other bacteria results come back quicker. How long ago was the scan? irene5

Nice when a “negative” is a positive! Don

Hi Sharon. So happy to hear of your negative results! Was it the nodule showing up on an scan that prompted the bronchoscopy? FYI, nodules can be tested for sarcoidosis. You may have to request it as many drs do not think of it. My cousin has sarcoidosis, and it took her 6 months and several opinions before getting the correct diagnosis.

My original biopsy was 2017 They said it was not consistent with sarcoidosis. I am now waiting on the culture To see if anything grows from last week’s Bronchoscopy.

Unfortunately my old pulmonologist did not test for sarcoid in 2017..
