Glycopyrrolate 1 mg. 3 times a day

Posted by sadiecora @sadiecora, Jun 17, 2020

My husband has had a problem lately with drooling.. Our neurologist offered the above medicine to help with the drooling.
I noticed side effects on line said it could interfere with medicine for Parkinson’s disease.
He took 2 pills for first two days and it really helped to stop the drooling.
On the third day the tremor in his hands increased significantly after taking the Glycopyrrate, Don’t know if it was just a coincidence.
Does anyone use Clycopyrrolate and if so could you share your experience and opinion of this medicine.
Many Thanks.
Jenny

Hello @sadiecora,

I've never used this med for drooling. So far, I've found that chewing gum works pretty well when I'm having a drooling episode. Here is some information regarding this med from Mayo's website:

https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/glycopyrrolate-oral-route/proper-use/drg-20074451?p=1

Here is another link to information from the National Institutes of Health website,

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK526035/

Did your husband have tremors before taking this med? Has your husband considered talking with his doctor about taking a lesser dose to see if that would reduce the tremors? It might be worth a call to the doctor's office to see if this would be a possibility.

Thank you for your reply Teresa, I appreciate your advice and the two websites.
My husband had a slight tremor when he took the medicine but it increased rapidly afterwards. The doctor suggested lowering the dose by a half. Sadiecora

Hello @sadiecora,

It is nice to hear from you again! I'm glad to hear that the med, Glycopyrrolate, has helped with your husband's drooling. He must be pleased to have one symptom relieved.

How are his tremors now?

Sadiecora. My husband now takes just one Glycopyrrolate 1mg once a day which keeps drooling under control.
