COVID-19 and fatigue
In late October 2019 I went from walking 10-20 miles every third day with an elevation gain of 2,000 to 3,000 feet to a complete collapse with overwhelming fatigue and weakness. I couldn’t walk more than a fraction of a mile. I didn’t and still don’t have fever or cough, so neither the local hospital or my doctor would recommend that I get tested when I requested it a couple of weeks ago. I still feel too weak to walk more than a few blocks. I’m wondering if I was an earlier contractor of COVID-19. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I can’t think of any other reason for such a dramatic and rapid change of fitness.

@billweigle.. Oh wow, that's pretty dramatic decrease of energy, are you still having this problem or are you back to walking? What did your doctor say apart from the fact that you don't need a test?
@billweigle - What a scary change in your fitness! I assume your doctor has not examined you since we are in the midst of Covid-19. The most important thing for you now is to get examined and tested. I know we think of Covide first, but all other possible illness can still affect us. Also, if you did have the infection without symptoms, the virus can still cause damage to many organs- including the heart.
Please call and schedule a visit as soon as possible. Can you please get back to us?
Yes, I have been sick with covid 19 for five weeks! I have never had fever or a cough! I used to walk at least 13,000 steps a day at my job in a dayhab facility! I can barely make it to the bathroom still yet! Prayers to you friend!
@wishercristy.. Are you getting any help or advice from your doctor or anybody? Do you live alone? How do you manage? You'll be in my prayers. Take care, I hope you will find help. I am very fortunate in that my children live close to me, at least my son. There are all kinds of resources in my city that I could reach out for help. Meals on wheels is still going strong. Does your city have similar resources?
Yes, I have a fantastic husband who is taking excellent care of me and as for my doctor I will see him Wednesday! The doctor has went above and beyond through this and given me every test possible until he finally said ok let's test for covid-19 and it was positive and I actually got my results on easter sunday! I have confidence and faith that when I go Wednesday he will find a way to do more testing and find the underlying issue with this! Thankyou so much for your prayers and concern! Prayers for you as well!
I'm not back to walking. I should have mentioned also that I am 79, have been on prednisone for over 3 years (now down to 8 mg/day) for temporal arteritis which I got in Oct 2016, and have had two ablation surgeries two years ago (successful at this point) for arterial fibrillation. My doctor didn't go beyond saying that because I don't have a fever or dry cough, he wouldn't OK a test.
Oh my! Many prayers to you!
