Visual Escapes and Daily Inspirations: Share Yours

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Mar 16, 2020

Let's create a space to offer a daily reprieve.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty and fear into our lives. Some of that fear and uncertainty can be caused by over thinking what is going on or unnecessarily worrying. So, I'm making sure I wash my hands frequently, not touching my face, staying away from social gatherings and all of the recommended guidelines to help avoid getting or spreading COVID-19 but it can be a little boring. I try to not watch news all day long while I'm in this self imposed captivity. I like to take pictures of birds and other creatures from my window as a welcome break.

I invite you to join me in sharing pictures, favorite poems, sayings, mottos, funny moments. Let's take a daily break together.

@zeiracorp, Nice photo! I occasionally get a blurry photo too. Most of the time when I'm not using my tripod to take the photo. I think most blurry shots are due to camera movement...hard to hold really still unless you can brace your hand holding the camera. I mostly use the auto setting on my camera so you can tell I'm an amateur 🙂 Another trick if your camera has it, is to use the "sports" setting where it snaps a series of photos when you take the picture. Then you can look through the photos taken to see if you have a photo that is clear. This was taken through the window with my camera on a tripod and auto setting.

I hear that Mayo can help with museum tours. How do we find those?

@lioness.. Yes, sun's out in CA! Looks like we may even have a couple of 80s this week. Getting ready to go walking now since the weather did not cooperate yesterday. My veggies box didn't come yesterday due to Easter and won't come again until end of month. I may have to order some from Tanaka Farms and do a curbside pick up. My children won't let me go to the store. Curbside pick up only if I don't get out of the car. I should have a delivery from Ralphs tomorrow, be interesting to see how much of the order I'll get. It's getting harder and harder to get a time slot for delivery. I saw on TV today some wineries in the Napa Valley is doing a virtual wine tasting tour! Have a great day everyone.

Should we google Napa Wine Tours? I have kids in Sebastopol, you are so fortunate to have access to wonderful farm grown produce! We are in WI.

I don’t mind. From the newsletter article on COVID -19. My husband and I have been in the house for a month due to age, high blood pressure and asthma compounded by lungs burnt with radiation for cancer.

@lioness I ordered for my husband off Amazon beautiful Santorini stone. Small pieces different shapes, I bought a package of three. White and has a slight sparkle ( reminds me of an opal) . Great background color. Paint/pen colors really “pop” ( my husband’s new word, learned it from watching all the remodeling shows on tv🤣🤣) check it out. Tell your friend. It’s a different surface. These are very compatible/like to regular unpolished rock. Your polished stone will be more of a challenge but very doable if you want to try it. Have a good one

@mayofeb2020 I just came in from my walk . Finally sun is out . Yea Im looking forward to those 80,s Yesterday my fibro flared up I couldn't do anything for 4-5 hrs. I am to get a Von,s delivery today but had to wait on it for 5 days . A lot of people I guess are ordering . Bless those delivery people . A nice thing here is the landlord is having a meal delivered to everyone everyday and a food box coming tomorrow so will see what is in it . I haven't ordered vegies from the farm how are they and do you have to take what they give you? Im going to look into ordering vegie seeds I have a big pot here in my apt I need to fill it up with something. How does that virtual tasting work I wonder . American ingenuity at this time .

I did it! Finished 2 laps, but my legs6sre really hurting so I have to take a break. My daughter ordered the boxed vegetables for me. You get what they harvest so it's seasonal. They just post on their website that due to rain, there will not be strawberries. In the last box I got Romain lettuce kale, tangelo, strawberries, Japanese baby turnip, snap peas and bok choy. You can tell they were just picked that morning. They also sell bread, honey and jam. All organic and wonderful. They are more expensive than grocery store but you can taste the difference.

Very very nice. Love your combinations of stone and setting. I could see u wearing any iif those pieces and look attractive. So. I normally keep my “adult” . Coloring off the grid. But, you have shared with me. This what I do to “zone” out since the Y is closed. And have gotten in the habit of reading on the treadmill cause I live in “rainy” Washington. Was playing around with my husband’s metallic pens.(rock pens) Bleed a little on the tail. (Not done yet, obviously!) The Great Science Experiment!!!!!!!
