Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@sueinmn, Sue, I also have very narrow feet with high arches and the shoes that give me the support I need are highjacking expensive and as mayofeb said, like looking for the holy grail! vbg
Remembering that as a child, I had to wear those (at that time) awful lace-up oxfords while girlfriends danced and pranced around in their much more appealing loafers...oh, the mortifications of the very young, yes? smiles Now support not appearance is my only shoe goal.
Great news that generic memory foam insoles from Walgreens will do the trick for you! Give your little guys an extra hug from another grammer who wishes she lived nearer hers! Happy walking.

I have a pair of HOKA ONE ONE they have a few other styles besides running shoes. Their slide shoes are very comfortable, and not over priced. Have you tried UGG shoes? Most of my shoes are UGGS as I can wear them all day without any pain or discomfort.
Good shoes are very important as we age our feet change.
Ryka brand shoes is another shoe with a good reputation for comfort.
I got rid of all the high heel shoes years ago, I’m sure you’ve done the same.
Hope you find a comfortable pair of shoes.
@funcountess. I had ugg before, unfortunately I don't think they have enough arch support. I need wide width which are hard to find. I had Ryka too. I have to check out the Hoka slip on. Hadn't warn heels for years. Don't miss them!

Try Zappos, they have a lot of wide widths. My neighbor wears a wide width shoe, she has good luck with them.
I know shoe shopping is difficult.
So far UGGS are comfortable for me, but That can change.
I think years of pointed toe high heels ruined our feet.
Good luck
I have wide width Skechers love them very comfortable Dr recommend it for me had bunion then still balls of feet sore I like my Skechers
Lioness, you are right, sketchers are comfortable. I have 2 pairs, I cannot get to them right now. Mayofeb2020 have you tried Sketchers? They are moderate priced, so won’t break the bank.
@funcountess I have a pair of tennis shoes and sandles both comfortable and good support
Yes, sketchers come in different styles.
I have plenty of shoes, but mostly wear UGGS as I get ankle support from them.
It’s mayofeb2020 that is looking for comfortable shoes. True, it’s one thing walking around the shoe dept. and another thing wearing a shoe all day.
@funcountess @lioness @fiesty76 @mayofeb2020 @sueinmn As long as we find shoes that work for us, keep us moving, and can report to @becsbuddy that we got out to walk, we're golden!
