Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group

Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'

And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?

Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/

So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.

Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?

Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

Becky, I love ice cream too. We have a locally made Roselani ice cream in Hawaii and it is the best by far. I have been eating some of their vanilla ice cream with macadamia ice cream and it is so hard keeping it to 2 small scoops. So you can see I have been enjoying myself with the big bar of chocolate and the ice cream. I walked a little further today. I think I am close to making it to Lahaina. It was very hot again.

Sure hope that ice cream was chocolate, I have found that there are dark chocolate mini bars. They are only 60 calories each. A good treat, however a lot of will power to keep it to "1".

@jude07 Funnily enough chocolate ice cream is not my favourite. I like vanilla or Italian pistachio.

Whoever started making ice cream was a genius. I will need to look it up.

What’s this about ice cream? Am I missing something here?
Is it time for my Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.? I am not big on candy, but love B&J ice cream.
The candy person is Donald Ducks first cousin jjjjjjjjjduck1. Notice no name mentioned.
Take care,

@funcountess Maybe it’s time to start a whole new discussion in the Just Want to Talk group! Who’s going to walk right over there with me?https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/other/

I got moving today, farther than just to my candy dishes. I walked 1.5 miles in the Cosco parking lot waiting for my brother to pick me up and haven't had any candy or sweets today. And some people don't believe in miracles!!!

That’s a great distance for you....so proud of you that I want to share our appetizer we all had this past weekend. I know you will appreciate it. Had this with pizza after we all did our walking around Orlando.

Well, it’s a gorgeous day today! Went to a favorite walking trail—Teller Farm. Everyone was wearing their mask so that’s good. No cows, though. Went about 2miles. Now I’m home with an exhausted dog. Only weighs 15 pounds so 2 miles might be a bit much. Sorry, Poppy!
I think we’re starting week 12 and, by popular demand, we’ll just keep going! We’re still at home, eating too much chocolate, and have nowhere to go. So, let’s keep walking
Have any of you felt any positive benefits from walking/exercise or is the isolation just too much? I have! The benefits took awhile because of the quarantine and cold weather. We all know that exercise is good for us and what we really need so to quote The Sound of Music “walk on, walk on with hope in your heart, and you’ll never walk alone”!

Oh my gracious what could I have ever done to deserve that. That conglomeration of slop looks worse than anything I’ve ever cooked. Sure glad I haven’t eaten yet, my appetite for lunch and even candy is gone.
Have things gotten so bad that you have resorted to eating garbage? I know you should eat whatever you’re served If asked to dinner but I believe even the top etiquette experts would agree with me on this one. If you served me that it would be in the garbage quicker than the speed of light . Thankfully I can’t even identify what some of it is and I hope you never tell me.
I’ll never understand how you could turn down my generous offers of some of the finest gourmet foods and wines in the world and yet you eat stuff like this.
You always have such good cooking suggestions And yet you come up with stuff like this, sometimes Mary you just boggle my mind, what’s left of it.
Anyway thank you for your suggestions.

A few cows on your walk would have been a delight, especially if they were Brown Swiss with their beautiful big eyes. Yes, I grew up on a farm.

Definitely, there are both physical and mental positive benefits. Without walking, I would be a mess! Thank you and thank you all!
