Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group

Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'

And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?

Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/

So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.

Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?

Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

Only one? Well, come to think about it I might be able to get by on one. I'll start with my 5lb Hershey bar.

@lioness , @jaddduck1. You guys are making me hungry for a chocolate bar! I'm trying to lose weight, I have gained ten pounds and from my back my muscles have gone to fat. I have never been like this, but the injections are easier to give into the fat. I'll be glad when I can get my body back. I was 98 lbs when I got married and only 117 with full pregnancy. I was 112, which was just right, but now I'm 122 1/2. I have lost. I love cake and sweets, so it has been hard. I want a chocolate bar!

@lilypaws I have just 1 everyday the dark chocolate that has the antioxidents in it . Jake frowns on this he only likes the disgusting milk yuk . The one I have or 2 are the small ones. Go get one before your surgery

@pollyanne I,m sure you did . Its hot here now so will go walking this evening . Went to Target for groceries to day so did a lot of walking there , does that count?

REPLY

@lioness Sure it counts. It's a long way around Target. sounds like it's a long way to Tipporary. I can't spell it. Walking around anything works. I have to say that I am like Jake and like the milk chocolate. I wish I liked the dark chocolate more because I know it's good. I do eat dark chocolate sometimes.

Just finished my walk, it's dark chocolate covered almonds for me!

@lilypaws You sound like me and put on very little in your pregnancy. By the time I had each baby I weighed less than when I started. It was great. Most people struggle to lose their pregnancy weight. I have a bad back too but I am not having surgery. They always tell me there is nothing they can do and I have to put up with it. Maybe being smaller and lighter hasn't helped our backs. My babies were big too. Were yours big babies, because I think it was a lot for our backs to cope with. I remember being well into my 2nd pregnancy and carrying the 2 year old at the same time. Not good. I hope you can get your surgery done soon and that you have a wonderful result.
Meanwhile, how about some diabetic chocolate. That would have less calories wouldn't it?

@jakedduck1 Those almonds make the dark chocolate sound much more inviting. Almonds are good. Maybe add some macadamia nuts too.

Hi, everyone! Glad you’re still walking! I took several walks today but only added up to 2.7 miles. Had to work off the ice cream we went for. Love ice cream!

REPLY

Sure hope that ice cream was chocolate, I have found that there are dark chocolate mini bars. They are only 60 calories each. A good treat, however a lot of will power to keep it to "1".
