Percussion Vests: Are you using one? Is it working for you?

Anyone willing to guess how many “regulars” on this forum use a vest?

Thank you for that suggestion, Bill. My concern is the tubing that connects to the tank growing bacteria and then jetting that into my mouth. I do miss using my Waterpik !!

@toni1132 hi Toni. My sister has a waterpik and she had ordered an extra tubing with an additional flosser head from waterpik. I have one also that i put a dropper full of colloidal silver in the water near the end of my session to kill any bacteria . That tubing never dries out so water just sits in it. Just a thought. Thank you for this suggestion, Kate. I was putting hydrogen peroxide in the tank filling it and flushing it through when I finished but didn't know it this was accomplishing anything. The water sitting in the tube is what concerned me. Thank you for your input, Kate. Keep safe ! Toni

Toni...I am just not sure what would be the better MAC killer but the hydrogen peroxide also sounds like a good bet. You stay safe too! Kate

Hi, 63. They prescribed the Smart Vest to me right away, as soon as I was diagnosed. I didn't use it for about the first six months, but then started using it. Actually, I really like using it. I know a lot of people do not, but I do. I don't nebulize, tho. My doctors have never talked about using a nebulizer. I am on the Big 3 tho. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Trying to kill off those little booger bacteria. I keep my shower hose and nozzle dry and clean ( actually I use a copper nozzle to kill off bacteria). I also stopped using my waterpik. That may sound stupid, but I figure it's just another aerated water source and it's in my mouth..... maybe not a wise thing to do. So, I don't.
Oh, as for the cost of the Smart Vest, I didn't pay anything.... it was prescribed.....I would ask my doctor about that for yourself. See about the possibility of getting and using one. Being as my lungs harbor a lot of mucous, the Smart Vest is to break it up and help move it out of my lungs. So it's a medical device and was covered by Medicare. Hope this helps! Toni

Thanks Toni for getting back with answers to my post. Also I sleep in a bite guard (one of the hybrid ones). When I take it out in the morning I use a toothbrush and scrub it with Peroxil, rinse and put Peroxil in the cupped side before putting it in the case till evening. I figure that the hydrogen peroxide ingredient should kill bacteria. I know I could just use hydrogen peroxide but I do a mouth rinse at the same time so it's convenient. Comments anyone.

Good idea. Peroxil. I too, have a night guard but haven't been using it. We're always having to stay on top of everything ! I'm just curious, did anyone out there think about going to the convention in Philly in May? I'm bummed that we won't be able to attend this spring. I thought it would be a good place and opportunity to learn from others. Toni

I got rid of our WaterPik over 40 years ago over concern about how to keep it clean, long before bronchiectasis and MAC were on my radar. I'm reading the discussion regarding peroxide as a disinfectant with interest. What bacteria are you concerned about eliminating? I can't seem to find evidence that peroxide or colloidal silver will kill NTM or MAC in devices. I have always wished I could use a WaterPik again because flossing is difficult for my arthritic hands, so I would love to find a simple way to sanitize all the parts.

@sueinmn I also have not used my WaterPik in years. The conversation just made me wonder if running vinegar through it would be enough to disinfect the tubing. That's what is recommended for shower heads and at least it's non toxic. Hmmm, something to think about.

Hi
Did you apply you own Velcro straps or did you get yours that way? I find my fasteners hard to manage to with having RA.
Thanks
Shari
