Foot neuropathy: What gives you relief?

Posted by kathrina @kathrina, Nov 5, 2019

It seems if I get enough activity/exercise daily I don’t have pain; if not, am awakened from sleep and must get up (even in the middle of the night). What’s going on & what more should I do to avoid rest-disruption?

I never realized how common foot neuropathy is. I didn’t want to take another pill so I tried acupuncture and massage and both helped. I wish I could say it made it go away but that hasn’t happened yet. I’m starting to think get treatments more often might work. I also used this device that is like a tens device only with more connectors and a variety of settings. I put it on and move the sticky connectors around while watching tv with my feet up. Hope something I mentioned works.

@katrina Welcome to connect We aren't Dr,s but tell of our experience . I have neuropathy ,fibromyalgia and lots of back problems . Have you seen your Dr or rheumatologist ,neurologist about Gabapentin for the neuropathy? Also I use for mine a product called Fibro cream by Topricin It does help me along with the gabapentin. Stretching your feet helps also along with exercise of the feet as you said. Good luck

@stuckonu Thanks for this suggestion of home remedies . ONe I have for my neuropathy and arthritis in my feet is I soak them in Epsom salts bath make the water as hot as you can stand . Magnesium is good for the whole body feet included . Besides relaxing the feet it helps with neuropathy along with just stretching the toes.

@kathrina The Topricin is a cream you rub in the Epsom Salts is to put into a foot bath . If you can find it they also make a gel in a tube called Procure that's the brand name I like it also for pain and it is magnesium too.

@katrina I hope I clicked on the right name. I have a hard time texting on my phone.

I have small fiber idiopathic peripheral neuropathy, with burning pain and sharp shocks anywhere from my knees to my feet. I have had some pretty good days since I started taking Imipramine six weeks ago. But as soon as I lie down they have burning pain. Strange. I'm sitting in the exam room waiting for the pain specialist, and I plan to ask him about it.

Hi @kathrina. Welcome to Connect.
I would think that it was odd, that when you exercise your pain is less, but I am recovering from a fracture that kept me unable to exercise much. My legs hurt a lot now but I find when I get exercise they hurt less! I am just wondering if that is something typical, that exercise helps to decrease pain. I think you have your answer there, get whatever exercise it is that helps you to feel less pain. I presume your doctor has said exercise is fine for you, but if not you should check with him/her.
I hope you let us know how things are going.

I was thinking about after posting and it occurred to me that my legs hurt a lot when I get up in the morning so I am sure with inactivity that the muscles get stiff.
