Prostatitis

Posted by bfreese123 @bfreese123, Oct 31, 2019

I'm a 45 years old.

About 7 weeks ago I had painful ejaculation and some mild testicle and pelvic pain that creeped up my left flank. Outside of the ejaculation all pain was more discomfort then pain. Went to my family Dr. and he prescribed 8 days of doxycycline. This cleared up the pelvic and testicular pain, plus the painful ejaculation. The left flank pain remained a nuisance and sometimes would be briefly sore after ejaculation. I saw him again and was prescribed another 5 weeks of doyx for the lingering symptoms. I also had a prostate exam and both times gave urine. All tests negative for infection or blood. Symptoms where waning until this morning. I woke up with really painful lower middle back pain that only hurts when I move in certain ways. My urination has always been fine and I'm not experiencing any pain other then in the small of my back. But it's really painful!
Anyone else have a symptom pattern like this?

Hi @bfreese123 that sounds absolutely awful. I'm glad that the pelvic and testicular pain cleared up. Have you and your doctor ruled out anything muscular about the back pain at this time?

No, the back pain came on suddenly and has mostly cleared up from a pain perspective. I have mild stiffness that has improved in the last couple days.

I have scheduled an appointment with a urologist. I'm doing better but the improvement has been slow and inconsistent. Hopefully I get a proper diagnosis. As of this morning my symptoms have waned but I'm concerned about the unpredictability. Some days I feel ok, others are tough do to the discomfort and anxiety.

I guess what I'm after is...are these symptoms consistent with prostatitis or prostate issues?

Hi @bfreese123 here is more information on prostatitis: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/prostatitis/symptoms-causes/syc-20355766

Note that lower back pain can be a symptom of prostatitis. When will you be able to get into the urologist?

I have an appointment with a urologist tomorrow. I'll update after my appointment.

I have an enlarged prostate and am on Bettmiga 50mg and Harnal OCAS 400mcg. I have reduced my bathroom visits at night from 6-7 to 3, but would dearly love to reduce more as one night i went once and experienced how incredible that made my next day. My urologist said i need other meds that will kill my sex life permanently if i take them, so what can i do to reduce my prostate and not need more than 2 bathroom trips per night?

Hi @asianeagle, getting up that many times a night sounds so difficult and tiring. That's great you have been able to reduce those visits from 6-7 to 3.

I'm tagging @bfreese123 in hopes he will come back and can offer you support as you both work through treating your prostate conditions.

Back to you @asianeagle, did your urologist say those meds are the only option for getting your bathroom visits down to one per night, or were there any other possibilities?

Hi Ethan. the only two options given were the Bettmiga and OCAS - he said if this doesn't work then there was another pill that would help but it will permanently kill my sex life.

Hi @asianeagle, thanks for sharing. What is the name of this new pill? Were there other side effects as well?
