Hydroxyzine

Anyone have any experience with this anxiety drug?

Hi, @doorman - I did a double take when I saw your post, as I'd been prescribed hydroxyzine in the past for a totally different reason: for allergies, to take at bedtime. I looked it up in Mayo Clinic's drug reference, and sure enough, it's used for allergy as well as for anxiety https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/hydroxyzine-oral-route/side-effects/drg-20311434?p=1.

Some members I'd like to invite into this discussion who have mentioned this medication include @mrser52 @mattkl817 @kbee6973 @gailb @abopp2022 @realtor123. Hoping they can share their personal experiences with taking hydroxyzine for anxiety or how things went for a loved one who took this med. @gingerw also may have some input.

Are you taking this now, @doorman? If so, how is it going?

@lisalucier Thank you for tagging me in the conversation. However, I have never taken hydroxyzine. No doubt we have some other members with experience!

Thanks for this info on your experience with hydroxyzine, @trellg132. Did you find it effective?

@thankful @cdcc and @grandmar - have you ever been prescribed hydroxyzine for anxiety? If so, how did (or does) it go for you?

Hi, I have taken it for over 25 years. I take 25 mg 4 times a day. I was given it for severe daily hives caused by allergies to a lot of things.I also take it when I have a reaction to insect bites , food allergy etc. It works better for me than Benadryl. In high dose it's used for anxiety. . It can make you tired, untill your used to it. It also gives you a dry mouth, and some people say it give you a metallic taste in your mouth.
