Adhesive capsulitis or frozen shoulder: What helps?
About 4 months ago I was diagnosed with a frozen shoulder, the doctor said take nsaids which I was already taking. Then I had a hospital stay for prancreatitis, complicated by a perforating ulcer and was told it was from nsaids and never to take them again. So here I am responsible for everything over 5 lbs at our house with a shoulder that just never stops hurting. Into my elbow, into my collarbone, and into my neck. Nothing really helps, not ice, not heat, not creams or lidocaine. Does anyone have suggestions for me. The doctor said it would resolve itself in one to three years but in another month I will be ready to cut it off myself.

@auntieoakley, Good evening, Welcome. I am so sorry that you are having pain from a frozen shoulder. As you probably know, frozen shoulder happens because of immobility. The fascia which surrounds the joint area becomes compressed and restricted. Although I have never had that happen to me after any of the four shoulder surgeries, I was warned about it by the orthopedic surgeon.
You asked for suggestions and I am going to attempt to give that my best shot. In order to remove the restrictions, you may want to try Myofascial Release Therapy, MFR. It is a gentle way to release restrictions. You may also be taught the at-home treatments that you can do between sessions.
There is a discussion group on Connect that may be of additional help.

There are multiple levels of certification for MFR therapists. The Expert level is the highest proficiency with specialized training in most areas of the body.
If you decide that you would like to contact an MFR therapist there is a registry on the following website:
https://myofascialrelease.com/
If there is no one listed in your area, you may find an answer on this site:
https://www.myofascialrelease.com/treatment/centers/sedona/
or....since, not all MFR therapists are listed, you can just let me know where you are located and I will do my best to acquaint you with MFR therapists in your vicinity. May you soon be free of suffering. Chris
@auntieoakley Years ago I was driving my car when I rear ended another and my shoulders wrapped around the stearing wheel . My Mom hit her head on the window . I was diagnosed with frozen shoulders . The Dr. sent me to P.T. for a long time till it got better . Ask your Dr. about P.T.
Thank you both very much. Interestingly my shoulder was anything but immobile prior to this. I just woke up one day and the top of my arm hurt, it gradually got more and more painful and more and more restricted over a couple weeks. I made the appt. got the mri, and the doctor said frozen shoulder. I think I will call and see about getting some pt. There is a very good orthopedic center an hour away. Because I cannot stop doing the necessary things at our house, something will have to give soon.
Can you tell me how long it took? I can manage something if I know there is an end in sight.
@auntieoakley It was along time ago but seems to me I was in P.T. about 2-3 months I'm glad you are going to go to P.T. Imsure this will help as well as Aqua exercise for the shoulder ask the Dr. about this also Water helps so much. With my fractured back the Dr. put me in P.T. in the water
Thank you, I guess pt is scheduling out 6 weeks.
I guess myofascial release is not a thing in rural oregon. I noticed there were only three clinics. I did call and ask for pt, I am hopeful that when they finally get me in, that it will be helpful.
@auntieoakley I'm glad to hear this . When I couldn't take therapy on land I told the Dr. and he ordered it in the water for me which was much better . Let us know ,we care
@auntieoakley, I found about 10 Expert level MFR therapists in and around Portland. Also in Corvalis, Lake Oswego, Ashland, Grants Pass, Eugene, and Bend. Are you within driving distance to any of those towns? If you feel comfortable giving me your location, I have another therapist list that I can peruse for you. Hope you are taking time to be joyful today. Chris
I am not but Slocum orthopedics in Eugene said they have someone, they are only a couple hours drive, and they will do my pt as well. Unfortunately they will not be able to get me in any sooner so 4 to 6 weeks before I start.
