I was discharged from Pine Rest inpatient hospital today and I am doing much better. But I still have short term memory loss, I have no idea when my memory will return.

Glad to hear from you, @mrser52, and that the inpatient time helped. Will you share, if you're comfortable, about what treatment you underwent while there?

As far as the short-term memory loss from the electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), perhaps @aarniek @sirgalahad or @jakedduck1 have some insights on that.

@georgette12 - how are you doing?

@renwald - did you have ECT?

I am so pleased that you checked-in with Connect, @mrser52. I'm glad you are feeling better. Did the staff at Pine Rest offer you any suggestions for getting your short-term memory back again?

No, they did not. And at the ECT clinic they didn't know either, they said it depended on the person, everyone is different. And they also said that memory loss didn't happen until after the 6th treatment and I said there was always a first time for everything. So I don't think they believed me about my short term memory loss and how it made my depresstion worse. I am wondering if they shocked my brain to much of a dose. I am thinking about having a MRI scan to make sure that my brain tumor is still ok.

Hello @mrser52,
A visit with a neurologist might be a good idea. I can understand your concern about the brain tumor.

I took these ect treatments a few years ago but now I just use a minimal dosage of antidepressants. However if I did not have a job to keep me busy then I easily fall back into depression
I work in home health care with the elderly. Even though I'm 75!

Do you think that the neurologist will have answers on my short term memory loss from the ECT treatments? It is really messing up me paying my bills and just messing up everything for me. I don't know what to do and how to deal with this.

Hello @mrser52

I hope your appointment with the neurologist gives you some answers. Since you are having memory problems I would suggest you start a list of everything you would like to discuss and add to the list as you think of more questions. If you can bring a family member with you that would be helpful as well.

When is your appointment scheduled?
