Did not have side effects or problems. It helped a little. It was worth trying as I've tried everything for 40 years already. Including all holistic therapies like crystal healing, magnetic therapy, even Chinese medicine. And many others. Western, eastern, native American, and on and on. I do think regular acupuncture sessions work well for some of us. Oh, I even went to the Edgar Cayce institute for energy healing. Ya need to Google Edgar Cayce as he's quite interesting.

I stopped my ECT treatments, they effected my short term memory real bad. Where I forgot to pay the bills and clean the house, they effect all of my short term memory. I could not remember what I did from minute to minute.

How many ECT treatments did you have before you began to notice the short-term memory loss? Did your doctor feel that some of that memory problem would be restored after discontinuing treatment?
Also, just wondering, and only share as you are comfortable doing so, do you feel that the treatments you had helped with your bipolar disorder?

@mrser52 Elaine, you gave it a try. It's good you recognized the side effects you experienced were not right for your situation, and sought to change course. Please pat yourself on your back for doing that! Let us know how the new antidepressants work for you, please. I suggest writing down each day, how you feel, so you can look back on it all and see the progress. We care.

I am so sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. I know you were hoping for a better response with the ECT treatments.
Have you considered hospitalization until the suicidal feelings are under control? Do you have a supportive family nearby?
