Anxiety, stress and depression

Posted by jt5369 @jt5369, Jul 13, 2019

I don’t even know where to bring. The last 2 1/2 months have been nothing short of easy. Beginning of May was my first er. Visit from experiencing panic, anxiety and bad acid reflux. From there they did a ekg and decided to keep me over night as percussion since the egk came back funky. Here I am 37 years old and never had a problem before. Next morning they proceed to give me stress test in which I never wanna do again. Fast forward I have been back to the er 5 other times for numerous things, all stemming from anxiety issues. Pain in stomach, dehydration, racing heart, I have had countless blood work, egk’s , 2 ct scans of abdominal, ct of head, ultrasounds , stool samples, upper scope , hida scan and ultrasound of heart. Everything coming back good. Still no answers. For two month now I have been taking dexilant for heartburn/gerd, Xanax and propranolol. Recently my doc prescribed me Zoloft where I had every known reaction possible to the medication ,to the point where I lost 10 lbs in one week from all the nausea. After 5 days I was told to stop the prescription. Now I have done the genesite dna rest to see what depressants can work with my chemical makeup. I am really hoping for answers but still waking up with racing heart, and all around not feeling a 100%. Somethings got to give. Recently my boyfriend talked to a nurse who works with a Gastro doc and she said I may have visceral hypersensitivity. Does anyone knew much about it or have any insight what is going on with me? I am really at a loss on what to do. I am trying to remind myself I am ok but at times it can be hard.

@jt5369 Good morning. Your message is loud and clear. You are desperately asking for pain relief. I have no medical background, just a little experience with the kind of pain that dominates your life right now. I couldn’t sleep and would just sit on the edge of the bed and cry. When I revealed that to two of my best friends who just happen to be nurses they jumped in and were “all over it” as they say. They introduced me to medical cannabis and with some type and dosage adjustments, I have a Chris portocol that works for me.

Can you remember the last time you were pain free? Were you also anxiety free? Does it appear that chronic anxiety may also be a factor in adding insult to injury with your pain level? After a Neurobehavioral assessment, it became evident that my anxiety was causing my pain level to leap higher and higher, The increased pain created more anxiety and then the anxiety created more pain. It can be a vicious cycle.

For me, the game changer was the introduction of duloxetine or Cymbalta. The result......I am back in reasonable control of the pain, I hope you can ask your medical providers about anxiety. And I wish for you to be free of suffering today even if it is a few minutes, an hour, or perhaps an entire evening. Please stay in touch. Chris

Hi, @jt5369 - glad you've connected with @artscaping. I also thought that some other members like @parus @farabella @annedodrill44 @lizzyisme @cyme and @grandmar also might have something to add related to your panic, anxiety and bad acid reflux, and other physical symptoms stemming from anxiety, and how to get some answers and relief.

When will you learn the results of the genetic DNA test to get some guidance on what antidepressants work for you? For right now, is there anything that is bringing relief from your symptoms?

Hi Lisa

Currently my doctor had me on Xanax and propranolol other than that it’s just me trying to get thru everything day by day. My biggest hurdle is stop googling symptoms, learn to relax and I have to start being more active. I am taking some time off work in s week and going to focus on me. That will be by working out, volunteering , medication and maybe yoga. I. Have to learn to get thru this and find ways to keep me busy

My friends had mentioned me getting into medical Cannabis, but not sure I wanna go that route. I am currently am on Xanax and propranolol. Over 3 months ago I was just fine. I think majority of my stress and anxiety stemming from my stress with work. I am taking a leave as of a week from tomorrow. So I am really hoping being away from there helps. I can then focus on me and work on getting back in shape, maybe volunteering , doing yoga and things that keep me busy

Yea I really need it. Now just to get thru this week ok. I just have an awful boss who just micromanages and truely I don’t think understands all the pain I’m enduring. He expects me to just go from one day dealing with this to being fine all of a sudden. It’s not that easy. And he needs to understand that

@jt5369 Have you been able to pinpoint the timeframe all this stress happened? You say you that work is to blame for the biggest part. Is your leave of absence noted in your work files as a leave due to stress? If a doctor can document that for you then it should be in your file, in case you have to pursue any repercussions from the Intolerable work state later on. It is good that you are taking some time off for yourself oh, and I hope that this will let you see the larger picture and where you how you need to proceed from here on out. Is there a superior that you can speak to regarding the management style of your boss? I'm sure they would be interested to know how it may be negatively affecting some of the staff. I certainly wish you well and hope you will come back and let us know how things are going. We care here at Mayo Connect.

Hi, @trellg132 - wanted to let you know I've moved your post on anxiety when you lay down here where others are discussing anxiety, stress and depression. Hoping that @gingerw @jt5369 @aliali @thankful @amberpep @parus will have some input for you related to this experience with body position and anxiety.

trellg132, are you feeling that you are thinking over things more deeply when you are lying down than while sitting or standing? Anything else that has occurred to you about the connection?
