Controlling Tinnitus: What works for you?
Hello: Has anyone on this site had any luck with controlling tinnitus? I see certain things advertised but always sceptical. Any thoughts/ideas?

@scottk Hi scott I have tinnitus along time When I was working as I was busy I didn't notice it much .Now that I'm retired I hear it all the time . My hearing aids do help but it still a low hum . I'm in the middle of using Lipo Flavonoid . For 60 days you take 6 a day . For me I noticed milk or any dairy products increase it so I do almond milk and just found out there is a Almond milk yogurt . Also the hard cheese or aged cheese is o.k. All I can say is good luck maybe a food journel to see what triggers it might be helpful . This is something you don't get rid of according to my ENT.
Thanks @lioness! My tinnitus is a little different than yours. There are times where I will get the high pitched sounds and then other times I will get the low hum like there is a earthmover outside my window! Sometimes I get a combination of the the two. Never goes away even when my hearing aids are in. I can remember as a kid when it was quiet around me I would get the high pitch sound for a minute or two and then go away. At about age 50 it came and never left. I realize that tinnitus can be related to hearing loss. Let me know how the LipoFlavinoids work....heard conflicting stories on them. I drink almond milk and very few dairy products even though I live in the Cheese State! Thanks for the response.
Ah...tinnitus What a noisy little buzz that is always pestering us when we least want it but can't get rid of it. Did you know there are some 50 million plus people with this milady and there is no cure for it? But research is being conducted on it in earnest. https://www.ata.org/news/news There is an actual organization that is exclusively directed towards Tinnitus and all of the information and answers you may have about how you can take care of yourself to minimize the effects of the buzz in your head. https://www.ata.org/understanding-facts Since hearing loss may be a part of the tinnitus or even contributed to the tinnitus, we can't discount learning about this as well. So, surround yourself with information and try to understand what you have and how this all adds up to help you identify what needs to be treated and how you can feel well despite what may not be the best outcome. We can still exist with what we have using tools to help us hear, see, move and exist in our world. We need to discover what those tools are and how they will help us. These organizations and people are there to help us do that. We are here in this place to find what's out there and to bring that here and say, that they have helped me. I have had the buzzing for years because of toxic meds -so it will never go away. I have hearing aids that mask them. I try not to listen to them. I drown them out with background noise, music, TV and other noises so that I don't always know that they are here. If I am busy, I don't know that I am having them. If I talk about them - they become loud. But If I don't talk about them and am busy with activities - they aren't really noisy. Meds I take do influence their effect but I take less of the ones that cause the most side effects. I hydrate myself well so that my body has enough fluids on board. Migraines are also part of my life but I keep my stimuli under control so that my tinnitus are also under control since they seem to work in tandem.
Check out the websites and see what you can find that is applicable to you. Write down those items you have tried and what might work for you. Keep a diary so that you keep track of symptoms - this helps when working with your doctors as it does with my doctors. It provides proof. Eloise
Only thing for me - is keeping my aids on longer-as we say there are many types of tinnitus.
I do not like aids in house but it gets bothersome
I agree! It is tough keeping them in all the time. When I work out I take them out and also if I am home alone I take them out. But really for me my tinnitus is bad with or without hearing aids.
New the last year or so- so far only when I keep aids out for long periods.
Taurine an amino acid.
3000mg/day (3g/day). I take two 1000 mg tabs with water first thing in the morning and a third later on.
I didn't think it was working until I quit. The relief was so gradual I didn't notice it, but when I quit, the return was quick.
Note: It didn't eliminate it for me, some days it's quiet, others a little noisy but the loudest it is now is about 10% of the loudest it used to be.
Of course, check with your doctor before taking anything.

@scottk I Scott I finished the Lipo-Flavonoids and they did lessen the noise but as far as getting rid of it they didn't . I didn't buy anymore and its still the same lo hum noise . I have H.A. and it doesn't matter its still there . For me I found dairy products increase the noise but if I am distracted by things I don't pay any attention to it ,my mind is on other things so distraction is helpful also . The price if around 30.00 and since it didn't make that much difference I didn't buy anymore. If you find something that helps please share .
I did the Taurine for about 3 months, and didn't think it was working. It was so gradual I didn't notice it. So I figured I was wasting my money, and in a week I was buying more Taurine because the noise came back with a vengeance.
Now a year or two later, I have some 100% quiet days, and the noisy ones are not very noisy at all.
I've always been able to ignore it (it's the only choice) but this makes it much easier to ignore.

Thanks Bob! I think I will give that a try....any side effects You have noticed?
