Psychosis or paranoia

Posted by lolly906 @lolly906, May 30, 2019

My son has shown symptoms of pychosis since last Fri. He is 40 we took him in to help him 3 months ago, I never saw this coming, he recently got a good job, don't think its gonna last he refuses to go to any Dr. And we had him placed in protective custody Sunday evening but a mental health assessment said he was ok but he's not I've called Nami and everyone I can think of I have no idea how to help him and how long this will last he is paranoid of phones, Wi-Fi, everything taken things apart. His dad is going to make him leave does anyone have any suggestions or knowledge on this condition? I don't know what more to do I'm physically and emotionally exhausted and all mental health agencies just say call 911 which we have done and they can't do anything without his consent the mental health system is broken I have seen it now firsthand

Rule out what it’s not for me anxiety was all it was and stress. Be kind to him and tell him he’s loved and stay positive! The thoughts we tell ourselves and others do affect our life! Wish u so much success with this!

Just want to let you know that when I was on Meth I was experiencing this same phenomenon. I am not a doctor but I believe this is a drug induced phycosis. I exhibited the exact same symptoms and behaviors. I took electrical appliances, phones and computers apart and was convinced I was being watched. I would often call the FBI and report things I thought were suspicious. I was also hearing voices. I have been off Meth for 3yrs now and these symptoms are completely gone. I didn't need mental health medicine or diagnosis I just needed to get into rehab and off the drugs. If you can get him to rehab I believe these symptoms will subside. Take this seriously and do all you can to get him to go...this can get worse and develop into a long term mental illness.

That's scary to me at this point, I was hoping he would return to a normal state even if briefly, so I could get him to seek help, yes he must have an underlying cause, but I honestly do not remember any red flags for this, it took us by surprise, although he does have an alcohol problem which when he came here was part of the deal, no drinking and get a job, but yes I will do what I can praying he will change his mind and seek help but at this point he doesn't think he needs any he believes his paranoid world is the reality

sorry @lolly906 I have been very ill with viral pneumonia and asthma and taken me 3 weeks to get better and .I can only access mayo from my work computer .the best thing you did was to to get him to ER and in a safe place as mamacita and lisa recommended and ginger w as well ..whilst he is in deep delusionality or paranoia no one can reach him until whatever was in his system has been reversed and or drained out . dear mum its so so scary to see yourson like this and so so hard and cuddles and bear hugs to you . the American system as I understand it he needs to be sectioned and then he can get the help he needs until he is stable

@gingerw we just found out after he was taken to ER I finally saw his discharge papers that had the drug " meth" in his system, he is having a meth pychosis, which I have never heard of but am learning a lot about, he is still showing signs of paranoia/ pychosis we did research online and found it can last for 6 to 10 days, sometimes longer he admitted to taking it now he has been referred to a psychiatric and looks like we will need to set up some form of treatment for substance abuse, yes I believe you have it right we wouldn't allow him to drink here so he took this awful drug, I'm still in shock and trying to figure it all out but at least we have some answers and I have had tremendous support here I thank each and everyone of you I am going to follow the addiction group also on here I think there is one

Hi, @lolly906 - wanted to follow up with you about your son. Has the meth psychosis subsided? Have you decided on some form of treatment for him?
