Psychosis or paranoia

I can hear the frustration and heartbreak in your words. I wish there were an answer for you but it sounds as if you have tried. Did the mental health assessment reveal his paranoid tendencies or did he cover up these thoughts?

Does your son have a power of attorney document for health care that gives you the authority to act on his behalf?

Outside of that, petitioning the court for guardianship/conservatorship is my only thought. However, you would need to have doctors evaluate him and agree that he needs this kind of protection.

He covered it up when they evaluated him, they told me he had no signs of paranoia, but as soon as he came home he told me he believed everything he said happened, 20 people following him, GPS in his phone( which he destroyed)) GPS in his lighter, he's been taking wires of our computer and he completely closed his bank account for his checks to be direct deposit saying he had been hacked, he has no power of attorney there's nothing,. I'm learning a very hard lesson, this is the most frightening thing I've ever seen and I feel helpless his dad does not understand and now wants him out I've lost work, we are not 20 anymore and even if I were this would be difficult, I will keep posting, but I don't know what's going to happen unless he wants help, I just hope it doesn't end badly I'm worried I wish mental health would of assessed him more thoroughly I don't believe they did thank you for caring, I feel very alone right now

I have a suggestion. My state's mental health system allows for 3 adults to commit a patient in thse circumstances. I'm not sure who to call, except your county's mental health court.

Upon receiving a committal order from the court, the police will pick him up, take him to the hospital. There, he'll spend 3 days, and after that, there will be a hearing. If he's found mentally impaired at the hearing, then he'll spend some time in the hospital and be forcible treated. He'll receive the help he needs and he's refusing.

From there, he'll be placed in outpatient committal where he'll see an outpatient clinician and receive help getting medications.

Thank you so much, I am going to check and see if our state has that in our mental health system I'm hoping they do because he's absolutely refusing any help at this point, I really appreciate your help and prayers it means more than you know I will keep posting until this is resolved

Please contact your county's mental health department. They might be able to direct you. Wishing you and your son the best!

@lolly906 Just another thought, you might try to obtain an evaluation from a mental health professional of your own choosing.

Nami told me that to, but the problem is so far he's refusing any treatment, I had set up an appointment with primary care Dr for today at least to get a referral, and I was hoping possibly a start on some meds, but he refused to go, I will keep trying thank you so much

Also with an episode of pychosis, do they come out of it at anytime? Or if they don't get meds will he be like this from now on? I mean is there any hope my son will come out of this even for a day without taking meds? I've never had this happen and don't know anything about it much I'm wondering if there will be a possibility of this episode stopping even for a day or so

I have been told that a psychosis has to have medication. It will not just go away on it's own. It continues to worsen until hospitalization maybe necessary. That's my experience.

I have forgotten to take my thyroid meds, and given myself a psychosis. It's called myexedema madness. He may have another health condition driving the psychosis. It's good to get ontop of it, check his electrolytes and consult with a doctor.

That's scary to me at this point, I was hoping he would return to a normal state even if briefly, so I could get him to seek help, yes he must have an underlying cause, but I honestly do not remember any red flags for this, it took us by surprise, although he does have an alcohol problem which when he came here was part of the deal, no drinking and get a job, but yes I will do what I can praying he will change his mind and seek help but at this point he doesn't think he needs any he believes his paranoid world is the reality
