@formydad Maybe you can ask your mom or dad if massage might help him feel better, both emotionally and physically? There are some gentle massage styles. I know that some people swear by foot massage and the trigger points located in the feet. Acupuncture for the swelling/pain/discomfort? Sorry, I need to think some more on this, and will get back to you!
Please know I am praying for you all and want to help however possible.

And how about you @formydad ? Are you doing OK? I know it’s been a really rough year for you and your parents. You seem to have kept a pretty positive mood throughout; I really admire you. And your husband is doing ok? With his mother’s death and supporting you, I know it’s been difficult for him also. I’m sending a double cyber hug for both. We, at Connect, are thinking of of you and hoping all goes smoothly.

Yes We are doing Good my husband and I. Healthy and grateful for it currently! Yes a lot certainly went on this past year but I also feel like you grow through trials and learn much if your paying attention :).
Mothers day is coming up and I was thinking of asking Him if he wanted to go to one of his moms favorite restraunts for lunch since he is working from home that is if they are reopened by then. If not maybe take out And share with my mom picnic style. - I’m really thinking about my dad his leg is so swollen. He is hoping the keytruda helps lessen the swelling one of the docs said it may help. It looks painful so swollen ☹️I saw him today. We are looking into compression socks and he elevates them he try’s to walk around the house some but it hurts..I wish i could make it all go away! Its hard to watch him go through this for anyone for that matter for mom too she feels helpless and its hard cause shes itching to get out and dad doesn't feel like doing anything. Im taking her to get her hair done next week salon is open! Ill be in car waiting cause its one client at a time 😉 and Ill take her to get some flowers for home.. n eat lunch maybe in car...
Dad sleeps a lot maybe its because he is on fentynal patch and has low dose oxy if needed. So he must really be in pain i guess.
But he presses on. Im Glad for that! And thankful for you all and the advice given! I pass on every bit! ❤️

Ok dad went back in hospital today. He had thrown up and had bad chills and a fever. And Tested negative for covid! They initially thought he had a urinary infection and pneumonia. Now they they they are not sure about that but have him on an antibiotic? Then- they found a blood clot in the swelled leg! I guess the other doctors missed it? He had Two previous scans? They told my dad maybe just a blocked lymph node use some compression for swelling-but never addressed it farther. His pain was bad in his leg & swelling to the point he was using a cane.. so hes on heprin right now. Admitted. Mom cant be there because of all the covid.. so shes at home:( -but I think i need to see if my dad will let me have permission to talk to docs on his behalf. I just feel like he is NOT getting answers he trusts what the docs say and then we have always found something more later or different- i dont understand. And i dont understand how they dont know if he has pneumonia or urine issue.
And noNe of the doctors are working together or for him. Im utterly frustrated. 🙁
Reading on heprin it doesnt get rid of clot? Just thins blood.? What will happen with clot? Will his swelling go away?

@formydad I’ve been thinking of you, your dad & family. You’ve all been through so much. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Your dad needs you as an advocate. Get your dad’s authorization to do whatever you can to help. Then ask questions. Go after information, explanations, diagnoses, treatment plans, prognosis etc. Ask about risks and benefits, interactions, alternatives, priorities ..... until you are satisfied with the knowledge you gain. A question I particularly like to pose of medical providers is “If this was you or your parent, what would you recommend?” Be assertive. Again, prayers for you as you press on.

Good morning. I think it’s a good idea to ask your dad for power of attorney for healthcare (medical durable power of attorney). Then you can ask why he has/had chills and fever. Have they done a chest x-ray, urinalysis. Also, putting him on heparin is good, finally. The heparin does not dissolve the clot, it thins the blood and the clot will slowly dissolve on its own. He may go home with daily injections that he will be taught to administer.
If you get permission to talk with the doctors, you will want to carefully write down your questions. But first, which doctor admitted him, has he been seen by his oncologist, etc. You might want to contact the patient representative to see if they can help.
You’ve got a big job ahead of you, but I know you can do it! Just be concerned but polite and calm. I have lots of faith in you. Will you get back to me?

@formydad Oh, I am so sorry to hear having a clot was not considered before now. It would be of great importance to be able to speak and confer with his doctors, but you know he is the one who has to okay it. I hope he will understand your pressure to get that okay!

As for treatment of the blood clots, that may depend on other meds currently in use. Heparin can help thin blood and prevent clotting. As far as what happens to the clot, it depends on where it is, how big it is. There are many factors to take under consideration that relate to everything else that is going on. I agree with you it is so important you get authorization from your dad to his medical team, for you to talk and discuss with them. Hr may be getting confused about some information.

We're here for you!

@formydad I hope your father will let you be an advocate for him, it sounds as if he needs that. These are such difficult times but people with problems other than COVID should not be overlooked either.
I am not familiar with heparin but at one point they thought I had a clot and I was to inject myself daily (I think it was daily) with something to get rid of the clot. That never went further because on further investigation they decided it was not a clot, it was a blur on the x-ray. Your father's doctors do not sound overly concerned about it though if their recommendation is just compression stockings.
It must be so hard on all of you to not be able to visit your father in the hospital. Hopefully, he won't have to be there for too long, and that you will be able to get more and better answers from his doctors.

I am pressing on! I just feel awful for my mom i know her heart is to be there with dad. They wont let her even visit.
Oh thank you all SO much for responding everyone!!!
- dad ended up getting an ivc filter placed in his right corroded Artery today incase the clot broke loose he believes they had then restarted the heprin. He has been visited by his oncologist which is great news. He will be getting a colonoscopy tomorrow because he has blood in his stool. I asked dad about putting me on hippaa as someone who can talk to docs i think he has me as a poa - but upon him or mom being incapacitated. Im looking into all the diff poa’s and ive printed forms to discuss with dad after he gets out. He seems to think he has completed these forms with me on them but has to give copies to hospitals but im not sure.
I did have my mom call up today at hosp. To have her - have the nurse re- explain what they did to her slowly so she could write it down. She told me she spoke so fast when she called she thought dad was getting a culvert put in his neck??? - anyway she clearly said ivc and i had her answer some more questions. So this is where we are. Thank you all for your love and prayers -concern and thoughts and advice and sharing your experiences! It helps me so much! I cant tell you enough!
