Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More
Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.
Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.
Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!
I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

It’s the amount of time the skins are in contact with the juice in the grape so it is grape skins.....you smart people

Oh my goodness. I just donated my mandolin because it was not a good one and I was looking into a small food processor. As of now I slice and dice by hand but when I did use the mandolin I used a grating glove...which I also use for grating. I have had nicks but no ER visits. What did they do for the finger and how big a piece did you chop off? That must literally have been a bloody mess.
Wow...order out for a week lol...not so funny though.

Ouch!! Sorry to hear about your finger and the mandoline veggie slicer. Were they able to reattach your fingertip?

@imallears
You are both very smart. I thought that was the right answer but I chose something different. I guess you should always go with your first impression.
I thought a mandolin was in a musical instrument kind of like a mini guitar sort of thing.
Jake
@jakedduck1 You are right the Mandolin is a musical instrument but also a grater or slicer also . You can easily scrap your finger off with it so you need a grabber of somekind before you use it .
@lioness
Obviously I’m not familiar with kitchen torture devices. I stay as far away as possible from those awful things.

@amanadaburett
Did you come up with the correct answer?
Jake
@jakedduck1 Here is a picture of the mandoline veggie slicer (in order to further educate you on the finer points of life and cooking)

Hi there,
That certainly is a vicious looking device, it looks like it’s out to kill. That was thoughtful of you to further educate me however the kitchen is the last place I wanna be educated about.
Would that thing work to slice an onion so you could make homemade onion rings? Don’t get the idea that I’m gonna be making them though. I have someone coming to stay with me who’s going to do the cooking so I’ll save it and show him and see what he thinks about it. I’ll eat the onion rings but I’m not gonna use it or wash it or put it away or touch it in anyway there’s absolutely no doubt whatsoever in my mind that if I did I would chop off every body part that I have and probably then some.
I thought what are these nuts doing running food against the strings of a mandolin.
Cooking bah humbug!!!!!
Jake
@jakedduck1
Love it! And yes you can mandolin on onion. Mandolins come with a food guard so you don’t chop off a body part. Of course there is the old fashion way of using a good knife . If you are having someone stay who can cook they will know what the horrible device is. My advice to all is to wear a grating glove on the hand holding the veg or fruit.
I often use one but not always...depends on how many vegetables I am torturing.
Oh get real lol..we know you can cook ..somewhat...I bet you could melt chocolate to drizzle over ice cream.
My son in law, God bless him, is like you. He does everything but cook. He assembled a kitchen island for me but didn’t understand why I wanted more prep space. I bought a beautiful large heavy cutting board to put on the stainless top of the island. He said “Isn’t that defeating the purpose ?” I told him I don’t cut on my countertops...I use a cutting board on top. He didn’t look convinced. But he does all the laundry, landscaping, handyman stuff, electronics, wiring ,painting etc...he doesn’t need to cook.
He can just about microwave something but has to be told the number of minutes. I remember when he came over with a boil in the bag rice and a pot and said...”what do I do with this?” My daughter had written out the directions. When you don’t want to learn you just don’t.
When my mom died, my dad really wanted to learn cooking and he was delighted when things turned out right.
It’s okay, Leonard...you have your people who obviously love to help you.
