Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More

Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

TOASTER STEAK UPDATE

Well, it didn’t work out quite as well as I thought it would. Good that I conducted my phase 1 testing outdoors. The whole mess caught on fire 🔥 and blew a circuit. The neighbors dog ended up with my dinner and has become my best friend. He’s disappointed in his treats now. He expects Filet Mignon now. Wasn’t to bright getting such a pricy cut for the test, I was a bit overconfident I guess. Oh well, on to phase 2 testing and a cheaper steak. I hope the dog won’t be to unhappy with the cheaper cut if phase 2 trials fail.

Hi,

You can thaw frozen shrimp in cold water...keep changing out the water so it doesn’t get warm. Just thaw the amount you need..very fast. Don’t overcook the shrimp whichever way you decide to cook it. It cooks very fast. You will taste the difference between cooked and fresh frozen shrimp and never buy cooked shrimp again.

@jakedduck1 , are you saying you attempted to cook a steak in a toaster? what an idea! you are too funny

I'm online this afternoon trying to figure out how to cook raw shrimp. I ordered raw shrimp (instead of cooked) by mistake and raw shrimp were delivered. I've never cooked raw shrimp but I'll have to figure this out! The instructions I found say to thaw the frozen raw shrimp in the refrigerator, not on the counter, so no shrimp for me tonight. Maybe tomorrow... I hadn't thought of putting them in the toaster 🙂

@Erinmfs Don't put it in the toaster horrible smell. After its thawed just add it to boiling water till it turns pink . I use to have to cook those jumbo shrimps for a client . ug

Hamburger, that’s a good 💡 idea Linda. I should try a hamburger first and graduate to steak. I’ll try that in my phase 2 trial.
Thanks,
Jake

Mussels in wine sauce soaked up with good bread and a white wine to drink ....that’s a dinner. Not so much shrimp or lobster now but I like clams and all kinds of sushi. Used to go claming in Long Island where we lived. Picked up clams with our toes ...clams on the half shell....sautéed oysters.....hmmm ...
Had raw conch once in the Bahamas....that was ugh! Smoked eel....so good..... betcha Jake just passed out lol.

@jakeduck

Don’t try it with hamburger meat...it’s got too much grease...and not enough “body” unless you get a preformed one.....
You’ll need a hazmat suit.

I have to stop reading this thread. I’m sick as dog. Ready to heave any second and the seafood is gonna finish me off. My back hurts so bad. I way over did on Percocet, Norco and Advil. Anyone know how to ease low back pain, short of poison?

Hi @Erinmfs Erin - I'm with @imallears - fresh is so much better than frozen you'll want that in the future. However, if you have frozen shrimp, thaw as she suggested. It won't take long. Then, I would heat some olive oil/canola oil mix then add the shrimp. Season with some garlic powder and a little sea salt. Cook no more than 2-3 minutes per side. It doesn't take long and if you cook too long they will get a rubbery texture. Good luck. Keep us posted.
