Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More
Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.
Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.
Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!
I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

@lioness
I like frosted mini wheats because they have 90% of your daily iron. Need to keep up my hemoglobin.

@jakedduck1 @lioness @margieinia The oat milk was similar to other non-dairy milk. Not as good as real milk, but OK. I got the brand made by Quaker Oats. It has quite a bit of fiber in it, which makes it healthier, especially if combined with a high fiber cereal like the mini-wheats that @jakedduck1 mentioned. I bought the kind without added flavoring or sweetener (50 calories). Because of the fiber, it might be the healthiest of the non-dairy milk.
@hopeful33250- That doesn't even sound good, my mouth went dry. So what does it taste like?
@jakedduck1 - Oh my goodness, so many replacements and your back too? I hate it when there's more than one thing ailing me. I get depressed and feel hopeless. I really think, Jake, that it's time to do something about your pain so that you can live a more productive life. You really don't want to just settle for not being able to move, do you?
@lioness Prednisone really is a mixed blessing. You were taking it for inflammation? I forget what I took that sliding scale dosage for, but I know it did work. Another time I was on it for a couple of weeks and gained a lot of weight and I was miserable. I was able to get off of it a couple of days early. Now I take it daily, but a small dose so it hasn't really bothered me.
I hope you enjoyed your grandson, you always seem to look forward to those times with him. I doubt I will ever live close to my grandchildren, when either my son or daughter finally have some children.
By the way, I buy the Rishi tea at Whole Foods. There is one in a non-refrigerated carton that you just add milk to, it's sweetened, but you can also buy tea leaves to brew if you want to able to have it without sugar. I think I saw it in tea bags too recently.

@jakedduck1 I think that @merpreb has an excellent point there. Maybe you should consider the surgeries. It sounds as you are living with too many areas of pain, life would be better if you could eliminate some of those painful areas.

@merpreb
I agree with you about managing the pain. It’s a hard decision to make about relying on pain meds but I think there comes a point in your life , and depending on your age, when it is a necessary evil. Also hard to decide about surgeries. I worked for an orthopedic practice for nearly 20 years and have seen the good and bad about joint replacements and back surgeries and would probably only go that route if pain couldn’t be managed. Difficult to say and there are no guarantees. But quality of life is so important. Food for thought.
Regards from FL Mary
@imallears- For me quality of life is everything and I hope that it is for you too Jake!
@merpreb It tastes similar to the other non-dairy kinds of milk, like soy, cashew, etc.
